Well done to everyone who took part in the Foster/Smyth/Lamason Cross Country today! The weather was perfect and the views over the lake and city were spectacular!

A massive thank you to Alistair, the farm manager for Te Paiaka Trust Farm, for allowing us to use the farm, and shifting stock to accommodate the using the loop we did today.

Thanks also to everyone who volunteered with course set up (Campbell, Paul, Julia, Ian, Mike and Rhonda), timekeeping & recording (Pam, Mike, Rhonda and Paul), and everyone who helped pack down the course afterwards.

Thanks also to everyone who came along. There was a mix of long-time club members, new club members and visitors. We hope you enjoyed your day.

There isn't a club event next weekend, but we encourage you to take part in the local Puarenga parkrun at 8am on Saturday.

The next club event is on Saturday the 27th of June. This is a new event being held on the old Motutara Golf Course at Sulphur Point. There will be more details about this event during the week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Just another reminder that the Foster/Smyth/Lamason Cross Country is on this afternoon. Meet by 1:45pm for the race start at 2pm. All are welcome, and you can either run or walk. You can do either 1, 2, or 3 laps of a 3.3km loop.

The event is held at the Paiaka Trust Farm, off the end of Utuhina Rd. Just follow the driveway off the end of Utuhina Rd all the way up until you get to the yards, where there will be a Lake City Sign.

We look forward to seeing you there!

This Saturday is one of the highlights of the Winter season - the Foster/Smyth/Lamason Cross Country at the Paiaka Trust Farm at the top of Utuhina Rd. The weather for Saturday is looking great, so there should be fantastic views of Lake Rotorua and the city.

We will have a shared afternoon tea after the event, so if you are able to, please bring a small plate to share.

We also need helpers to set up the course, which we will do at 12pm. If you are able to help with course set up, please contact Matt on 021 058 6189.

The course will be similar to previous years, on an approximately 3.3km loop of undulating farmland, with the trophies for those doing 3 laps (approx. 10km). But you can opt to do 1 or 2 laps, and there will be a shorter option for younger children as well.

We look forward to seeing you there on Saturday afternoon!

Hannah Gapes to compete at the 2026 NCAA outdoor track and field champs.

An extraordinary achievement that very few New Zealand athletes ever reach - and this year, three of them call WAIBOP home.

Casey Day is the U18 Women’s Oceania Long Jump Champion 🥇

Competing in Darwin, Casey produced a clutch performance to claim gold with a huge 6.10m jump — equaling her personal best when it mattered most.

After four rounds, Casey held a narrow 3cm lead before the Australian National Champion responded in the fifth round to move ahead by just 2cm. With the title on the line and only one jump remaining, it all came down to Casey’s final attempt of the competition.

Under pressure, she delivered in the biggest moment possible — reclaiming the lead with a massive final-round jump to secure Oceania gold.

A performance that showed not only her physical ability, but also incredible composure, confidence, and mental strength on the international stage. Massive congratulations Casey!
