A huge thank you to P.k. Tamehana for partnering up in this year's Bowls Bay of Plenty Centre Mixed 2x4x2 Pairs.

You're a legend mate, so calm and relaxed over the whole 3 days regardless of how many pressure situations we had and there were more than enough.

From an extra end against Dan Dickison and Mary Campbell, to a last end,1 shot down, semi-final against Steve Hughes and Sue Hodges, you always kept on smiling and just played the big shots.

I had such a good time, not only being able to play the game I love for 3 days but also being able to enjoy the company of the many people whom have become really good friends both on and off the green.

Thank you to Hopa Bell and Sue Crackett for the 5 star Hotel treatment over the weekend, saving both PK and myself hours of travel time and as always the food made with love always tastes amazing.

It was so good to just be able to relax after a long day of bowls with an ice cold beverage and great company, so thank you once again from P.k and myself.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support their club players and especially our Ngongotaha Bowling Club whanau Johnny Hohepa, Doris Wiringi, Leonie Renata and Sue Crackett ,so grateful to have you all there yesterday.

To Bowls Bay of Plenty, Tauranga Domain and Mt Maunganui Bowling Clubs, our Umpires, Green keepers and Tournament controllers, thank you for a great weekend and all of the work that goes into organising these events.

๐Ÿ“ขFIELD ANNOUNCEMENT๐Ÿ“ข
STOKE STAKES MENS PAIRS 2023

We're pleased to announce the field for our upcoming Stoke Stakes Mens Pairs for 2023, to be played on November 3,4,5.

We've got 30 pairs confirmed, with 2 further to be added once Oz E Cool Roos boss Damien Mcgee works out his touring party as the Aussies attack our event as well as the Nelson Bowling Club Speight's Premier Fours.

The years field has talent from end to end, and is a sound indication of how popular this event has been since it's inception.

Last years winners, who were almost TAB outsiders, Tom Tamati and Craig Carter, will be returning to defend their title, while runners-up Jordan King and Nathan Glasson will be hoping to go one better.

There's plenty of present or former Blackjack talent in the field, as well as some Aussie flavour, as well as a good mixture of youth and experience. The below 32 teams will be looking to have their slice of the $20,000 prize pool, making it once of the richest events on the calendar.
The field will be drawn into sections of 8, with the top 2 in each qualifying for Stakes Day on Sunday.

We look forward to hosting all visiting players, and invite all spectators to join us at Stoke BC for one of the most prestigious events on the Bowls New Zealand "Summer of Bowls" card, with information on Live Streaming for our out of town followers to be announced closer to the event.

Awesome report Paddy Stewart and congratulations Gisborne - East Coast. Thank you for the great weekend of Bowls.

The Gisborne East Coast representative bowlers were out in numbers over the weekend, signifying the start of our 2023/2024 season. 32 eager bowlers donned the sky blue, white and red as they set off for 2 days of bowls in the Bay of Plenty.
Saturday saw a clash versus the Waiariki rohe (Aotearoa maori bowls region) at the Ohope bowling club. In beautifully sunny conditions we were blessed to have 2 well maintained artificial surfaces to play 3 rounds of bowls. Each team comprised of 8 players and 4 games were played each round. No player was permitted to play the same discipline twice so players needed to show versatility within singles, pairs triples and fours to get the team over the line. Gisborne East Coast had some stars out on show and should be very proud of the efforts. The trophy would be awarded to the centre that had the highest combined points. Junior men and women plus the senior men and women.

The junior men fell just short with a nuggety performance losing their battle 11-13 and the women were dominant victors winning 15-9.

The senior men were solid throughout with a couple of close games going against them, but strong combinations proved fruitful with a 15-9 win. The women were put to the test from a lively bunch of ladies and found the locals were ready to take it to them. Unfortunately not their finest day at the office going down 19-5, plenty to take home from the experience none the less.

Overall Gisborne East Coast finished on 48 points and Waiariki also finished on 48 points leading to a count back on differcial which went in the favor of Gisborne East Coast +55 v -55 . Notable great performances were Karen Pinn in the Junior Women, and Marcus Merrick and John Dawson in the senior men's, winning all three games and scores of differcial for the team. JD also blessed us with 2 'flippers' in the first game which made for great comradary and an enjoyable day for all.

It's understood that this is the first time Gisborne East Coast has won this tournament! Ka pai to mahi kotou.

Report for Sunday vs Bay of Plenty coming soon
