Season Reflections: Highs, Lows, and Thanks!

We're reflecting on a season of great highs and unfortunate lows. Our Reserve Grade team narrowly missed out on a grand final win, abandoned due to bad weather, after a strong semi-final performance where we opted to bat first on a challenging pitch.

Gurjant Singh's resilient 33 off 91 balls, supported by Bipul Das (22) and Tarun Mohinder (22), helped us post a competitive 164. With the ball, Neeraj Kumar rocked the top order, removing both openers, while Sid Saluja's spell was instrumental in our success, building on his consistent season with a standout bowling performance (4 for 25) that rattled the Whakatane side with his nagging line and length.

It's been a successful season overall, with our Premiere team, the Eves BOP Indians claiming the Plate championship in just our second year. We're proud to offer a pathway for our players and grateful to our sponsors for their support, which provides us with the necessary resources and opportunities.

We'd like to acknowledge the passing of Jayanti Sima, a club stalwart who made significant contributions to our hockey and cricket teams, and more recently, our administration. He will be deeply missed.

As we conclude the cricket season, we're gearing up for hockey and exploring winter activities. If you're interested in playing, please send us a message. We'll keep you updated on upcoming events.

Eves BOP Indians take down Eves-sponsored Greerton in thrilling Eves vs Eves clash!

The Eves BOP Indians had a nail-biting win last week against Greerton. We won the toss and opted to bowl first. Our seamers delivered on a track that was on the slower side and had plenty in it for the bowlers. Hritick Sharma led the charge removing the top order with 4/20, and Khushwaran Joshi chipped in with 4 wickets as well, restricting the opposition to 118.

Chasing 119 on a tricky wicket, we faced early setbacks, but Gurwinder Singh's solid batting kept us in the game. After his dismissal for 30, we were 70/7, but Hritick Sharma stepped up with a match-winning performance - 23 crucial runs to go with his 4 wickets! Faheem sealed the win with a gritty 15* off 50 balls, hitting the winning runs and securing the win with 1 wicket to spare.

We thank Greerton for a great game of cricket and wish them the best for their Semi Final tomorrow.

For his all-round performance in last week's match vs Central, our Eve's Player of the Day was Faheem Basharat. In the absence of key players, he took the opening slot with the bat and made a gritty 34 on what was a tough pitch to bat on. With the ball, he took 2 for 31 from his 10 overs.

Khushwaran Joshi also had a great all-round game, scoring 35 and taking 2 for 33.

Tough day in the office last week, but both teams showed incredible spirit!

In our premiere match vs Central, the Eves BOP Indians won the toss and elected to bat at Smallbone Park. On a tricky pitch with slower and inconsistent bounce, we posted 147 which we felt was a competitive total. In a game that swung both ways, Central eventually took the honours with 2 wickets to spare.

Our Reserve boys also gave it their all in the T20 Plate Final vs Sri Lankan Lions, putting up a modest 101/9, with Deepak Chandel (30) and Hiranmay Malik (20) offering some resistance. The Lions edged it with 3 wickets to spare.

For his excellent, gritty, and determined knock of 48 on a tricky surface, which helped the team post a competitive total of 173, our Eve's Player of the Day for last weekend's match vs Papamoa was Khushwaran Joshi.

Our other star performers last week were Deepak Chandel, Jatinder Maan, Hritick Sharma, and Faheem Basharat.

Another successful week for our club!

A week of positive results for both our Premier and Reserve grade teams, who both brought home wins!

Our Reserve team took on Tokoroa CC in their T20 match and posted 162, thanks to a brilliant 75* from Deepak Chandel. Tokoroa could only manage 59 in response, thanks to an all-round bowling effort. Jatinder Maan was the pick of the bowlers, with 3 for 10 off 3 overs. Well done, boys!

Our Premier side faced Papamoa at Smallbone Park, posting 173 after being asked to bat. Khushwaran Joshi (48) and Faheem Basharat (25) starred in the middle order. Papamoa were all out for 145, thanks to Hritick Sharma (4 for 25) and Faheem Basharat (3 for 18).

It's great to see community members playing and delivering standout performances.

Every campaign has a hiccup, but we're keen learners and are ready to move forward.

After the premiere setback last week, the boys are ready to go and get back on track. As the new club on the premiere circuit, we've already proved that we can be a handful, and we're eager to get back on the field and show you our skills.

While there was a premiere blip, there was also a successful ressie win. The club is thriving, and we're keen to turn things around.
