Nuku Ora is thrilled to announce Gráinne Moss as the winner of the Lifetime Contribution Award at the 2026 Āti Awa Toa Wellington Regional Sports Awards.

Gráinne has completed the Oceans Seven, the world's most difficult channel swims, becoming just the 45th person in the world to do so. Generous with her knowledge and encouragement, Gráinne's contribution is deeply valued within the global marathon swimming community, her impact extending far beyond her own achievements in the water.

🇵🇱 History has been made Bartłomiej Kubkowski

Polish ultra-swimmer Bartek Kubkowski has become the first person in history to complete a nonstop swim across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland.

🌊 Distance: approximately 160 km
⏱️ Time: nearly 55 hours without sleep
🚤 Rules: no touching the support boat, no getting out of the water, feeding only from the es**rt boat.

This was his fifth attempt. After years of setbacks—and coming within just 11 km of the finish last year—he finally achieved what had never been done before.

An extraordinary achievement in the history of open water swimming. 👏🌊🇵🇱

She did it!!

She did it!!

SHE DID IT! 🌊

Grainne Moss has completed Japan’s Tsugaru Strait — and with it, the Oceans Seven.

Last year, the current stopped her after almost 13 hours and 55km of swimming. Today, she came back and finished the job.

Official time and distance to be ratified and announced soon.

At 56, nearly 39 years after swimming the English Channel at 17, Gráinne has joined fewer than 50 people in the world to complete all seven crossings.

And she did it fuelled by determination, an extraordinary crew and Mama Gunn’s potato and leek soup.

For the past five years, Gráinne has put herself through some of the hardest water on the planet while raising nearly $50,000 for Kenzie’s Gift. That money helps us support young Kiwis whose parent or sibling has died or is seriously ill.

Gráinne, you are one in a million. Tough, generous and gloriously stubborn. We are completely in awe of you.

The swim is finished. The fundraising isn’t.

Help Gráinne reach her $10,000 target this year 💜: See link in bio x

We just saw the post that she finished this amazing journey, congratulations champ.

Another openwater challange team!!

The BIG one - embark on a solo marathon swim of 20km around the magnificent Rangitoto Island in Auckland, New Zealand. This gruelling swim is not for the faint of heart, but for those seeking to push their limits and achieve the extraordinary.

Book your spot and open up a conversation around timing, capabilities and costs. Safety and progress will be closely monitored and an official observer will accompany you, equipped with GPS tracking and capturing stunning photos of your swim.

Timing is crucial, and we will carefully select a one-week window for your swim, considering the ever-changing weather and sea conditions. Need assistance with your feeding schedule? We’ve got you covered. Alternatively, you’re welcome to bring a trusted second to assist you.

The currents around Rangitoto Island are notoriously challenging to judge, making it a true test of your skill and determination. Only a handful of brave swimmers have successfully completed this solo marathon swim without a wetsuit, while a few others have conquered it in wetsuits. We understand the value of personal choice, so we support both skins and wetsuit swims. However, only a skins swim will be recognized as an official marathon swim.
