Friday night we celebrated the year that was. Big congratulations to all that received awards last night. Rob, Ben and Doozer, thank you for giving up your time and leading this team. Very exciting moment with Vikings Blazers now being introduced to players that have completed 50 Games. Congratulations to the boys that received theirs last night.

The Vikings rounded out the season in style with a convincing 32-12 win over Pioneer under sunny skies on club day in Waikaka.

Vikings dominated territory and possession early with numerous phases on attack, they were rewarded with 2 early tries and a penalty. Pioneer found their way over the try line but the Vikings defence held strong and defused a number of Pioneer attacking plays. The Vikings dominated the scrums and lineouts to go into half time 15-7.

Pioneer are a top 4 team for a reason and the boys knew they’d have to be at their best in the second half to hold them out. A controlled second half saw much of the same as the first with solid structure leading to space out-wide with meters made. Vikings gained another 3 tries to see the final score 32-12.

Josh was at his best dominating the tackle and making meters every time he carried the ball. He was supported by his jumping partners Sam and Cody who in their first full season of Division 1 have grown every week.

It was a season of what could have been for the Vikings, with numerous close loses early on costing the team at the back end of the season and unable to push for a semi-final. Four wins to round out the season has left the team with plenty of confidence leading into next season. With numerous players in their first year of Division 1 rugby it’s exciting to see the next generation of Vikings coming through.

Thanks to everybody who has supported during the season and we look forward to celebrating with you all at our end of season prize giving on the 31st July in Riversdale.
