A bit of a stinky day weather wise, but still a fabulous view from the breakfast table. L to R, Stitch, Deuce, Lena & Roo. They're sheltering from the rain under the drive trees right now but were out having a pick earlier on. Also gorgeous colour already on Naths Grove trees. 👌😘

Roo & Stitch are growing well. Both such cool girls & who would've thought they'd have so much roan 1/2 way through their first coat changes. We're thrilled with them of course. It's fabulous to keep having such quality in our paddock.

Lena, Deuce & their gorgeous babies now in together. Doing it a bit tough in all that grass haha.
Roo is nearly 7 weeks old & Stitch is almost 4 weeks. Growing like bean sprouts.

Very happy to welcome Stitch, quite a few days late, early morning & rather dramatically, with one long leg stuck. Thank goodness we were right on the job & Grants manoeuvring managed to free the leg ( just before the vet arrived) & get this very leggy filly birthed safely. She looked a week old at birth. Very nicely put together. Mumma, Deuce( Autumn Drift) & Dad, Vinnie (Chrome N Oak) have done another great job. Bit stingy on the socks but pleased to see roan hairs everywhere, so the coat change will be interesting.
That's it for foaling here at Tutukau Lodge, but we're right into breeding & can offer 2 remaining slots to Chrome N Oak for this season (book closes Dec 20th).

Had an amazing week away at the Trans Tasman Cutting Challenge in Goondiwindi, Qld. Weather was rather on the warm side ( 37 degrees ) but a few cold ones helped with that.
Our NZ team of 7 riders battled with 7 Aussies & although we came close, they took the trophy as Champions. Big congratulations to them.
We were each buddied up with an Aussie team member & they provided the 2 horses we rode. My buddy & new mate was Stuart Thomson from the Sunshine Coast & his 2 horses we shared were Handsome Lady & Hand of Destiny.
There are so many people to thank for this opportunity.
Bec & Jeff Eddie (Aust) & Mindy Matchitt ( NZ) the organisers who have worked so hard to get this event off the ground:
Southern Queensland Cutting Horse Assn & Cotton Country Cutting Club, co-hosts of the event & all their workers in & out of the arena:
Judges & cattle suppliers:
Jackson Gray & Casey Tones - team coaches:
Hopper Knocker Bullbars as the major event sponsor :
Dozens & dozens of other sponsors from all over Aust & NZ but a special thanks to my rider sponsors The Rural Midwife & P & T Dyson:
Ariat NZ & Warehouse Saddlery for our awesome team jackets & Circle L Aust & Sunkissed QH Stud Aust for the very smart team shirts:
Have a look at our Trans Tasman Cutting Horse Challenge 2025 FB page for the massive list of sponsors & try & support them where you can. They help to make these events extra special.
Met some amazing people & made many new friends. We look forward to seeing the Aust team here in Feb 26 for a chance to get that trophy in it's rightful place - here in NZ.

Finally the weather improved for a photo shoot with Lenas new baby. Theyve been in & out of the stables most of the week to keep out of the rain, but we all enjoyed the sunshine when it arrived.
So, meet Roo. ( she has a fair bit of Aussie blood & with Grant over there competing in the Trans Tasman Cutting challenge, it just seemed to suit)
Mum Lena ( Awesome Smart N Sweet) NZ Cutting Futurity Champion, Derby Reserve Champion & Classic Champion.
Dad Ace ( Spinners Acre (imp)) NZ Cutting Hall of Famer & sire of multiple NZ Cutting Futurity Champions.
They have created a little beauty. To get a filly was fabulous, to get a bay, fantastic & plenty of roan flecks was just the icing on the cake. She is just perfect & boy, she should be athletic.
We have always admired Spinners Acre's ability & what his progeny have achieved & with him now being the grand old age of 25 yrs, we thought we had better get in while he was still available.
Lena will be bred to Vinnie ( Chrome N Oak) this season & we will definitely be looking forward to that baby next year.
Happy days here at Tutukau Lodge. One more baby to come for Deuce, due at the end of this month.

Lena (aka Awesome Smart N Sweet), Grants show mare finally foaled early this morning after being waxed for a week. Worth the wait for a gorgeous bay filly with a little roan fleck. Photos in a few day.

Had a very successful clinic here over the weekend. Weather was fabulous both days & we're pleased the participants got plenty of work in over the 2 days & lots to work on when they get home. Shame for the ones who couldnt make it at the last minute for various reasons but thanks everyone for supporting NZCHA & Grant on his Trans Tasman Cutting Challenge trip.

Breeding season is just around the corner, so while you're cosy by the fire, have a good think on which stallion is the right fit for your best mares.
The Sannmans are sure rocking the Cutting, Reining, Cowhorse & many other arenas & are now close to $4million in progeny earnings for this fabulous young sire, so if you want to get your slice of that pie which includes the great Metallic Cat, plus numerous other Hall of Famers, then contact us to book a breeding spot to Chrome N Oak (aka Vinnie) for the 2025 season.
Vinnies first foal crop of 3, with only 2 of those hitting the arena so far, has produced 2 Cutting Futurity Champions & the younger ones are appearing under saddle to rave reviews from their owners.
His Service fee will remain the same as last season & there will be limited spots available. ( hand serving only).
