Marlborough Cricket Association (MCA) today announces that General Manager Ed Gilhooly will step down from his role after nearly two decades of service. Ed first signalled his intention to transition out of the role some time ago, and following a recent family bereavement, Ed has chosen to bring his finish date forward to allow him to spend extended time in the UK.
During his tenure, Ed has overseen a range of operational, governance, and participation-focused improvements. Notable achievements include:
โข helping significantly strengthen the financial position of the Association from a challenging starting point
โข supporting the expansion of playing numbers across several formatsโincluding the recent growth of the womenโs and girlsโ game
โข building strong working relationships with Central Districts and New Zealand Cricket
โข Managing MCAโs transition from a management committee structure to a modern governance board in 2018, including implementation of the new constitution.
Operationally, Ed has been responsible for coordinating and hosting a number of significant tournaments and events. These include the Under-19 series between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2010, South Island Primary Schools tournaments in both 2015 and 2025, and multiple veteransโ tournaments, including an international fixture between New Zealand and Australia.
