Kia ora and thanks for stopping by! Whātonga Waka Ama was established in 2023 and is based at Raumati Beach on the beautiful Kapiti Coast.

We promote waka ama as an opportunity for everyone of all ages to be a part of a club where we encourage healthy minds, body, soul and long-lasting relationships with each other and the environment. Kia ora everyone, some exciting news! We were successful in becoming a registered charity!

What does this mean?

We can now apply for wider funding to support the set up of the club, funding things such as; New Waka, gear, safety equipment, and putea to transport whanau!

Keep an eye out for the next steps in this journey! We'll be dropping some expressions of interest soon...

This morning we were privileged to attend the blessing of Kapiti College’s newest waka, Rongomai, at Kapiti College marae.

A special moment for our rangatahi and a powerful example of what can happen when community comes together. Huge thanks to Whātonga Waka Ama, Kapiti College and Waka Kapiti for the collaboration and shared vision behind this kaupapa.

On behalf of the club, we also want to acknowledge and sincerely thank Matua Paora, Whaea Alison, Matua Alby, Matua David,Matua Eddie and Kui Lois for bringing this to life for the rangatahi of Kapiti. Your leadership and guidance made this morning what it was.

Rongomai is more than a waka. It represents opportunity, connection and pride for the next generation. We cannot wait to see it out on the water. 🌊

Our Annual General Meeting is coming up and we would love to see you there.

📍 Location: Kapiti Bears Club, Matthews Park, Menin Road, Raumati South

This AGM will cover both the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 periods.

A finalised agenda will be shared on Facebook closer to the date.

Please keep an eye out for updates, especially confirmation of the venue. Your voice, whakaaro, and presence help shape the direction of our club, so we encourage all members and whānau to attend.
