We did it! Thank you and the 40+ North Canterbury Primary Schools who have supported the NC Sports MainPower Primary Schools Coaching Programme for nearly 20 years! This programme has now been nationally recognised! 🏆

North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust wins the Community Impact Award for delivering the MainPower Primary School Coaching Programme. Supporting over 7,500 tamariki each year across 42 schools – this programme breaks down barriers and builds healthier, more confident and connected young people through sport.

Last week NC Sports held the NC Cross Country Championships with over 490 competitors at the A & P Showgrounds in Rangiora. It was great fun! Congratulations to the competitors who put in some amazing effort! Thank you to the many parents and community supporters who came along to celebrate the occasion; a great day was had by all! 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

NC Sports Gymnastics and Fun-damentals programmes are a range of popular classes catering for a wide range of age groups from under 2 to 8 years old.

During each class, the children are given the chance to explore and have fun in a safe and challenging environment learning the basic skills of gymnastics as well as fundamental movement patterns and motor skills, helping with building confidence, balance, body awareness and control.

HONOURING GILLIAN HALL | Local woman Gillian Hall’s memory was honoured recent by Paralympics New Zealand. ‘Gilly’, as she was affectionately known to many, paved the way for New Zealand Para Alpine skiiers, being instrumental in establishing the Association of Disabled Skiiers in 1976 and the attendance of the first NZ Paralympic Team to compete at a Paralympic Winter Games, in Geilo 1980. Her support and dedication for the representation of disabled skiiers was unwavering till her passing 16 years ago. Her husband, local Tony Hall, continues to honour Gillian’s legacy with the immeasurable community work he is involved in, including for NC Sports. Tony says: “[Gilly] taught me that the rewards of giving were far greater than the taking.”

ASHBY FAMILY SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP | One sports scholarship of $1500 is available to North Canterbury based athletes competing at a REGIONAL level, to assist them in advancing their sporting pursuits.

Available to athletes between the ages of 12 - 20 years who reside / parents reside within the North Canterbury region.

Consideration period: 1 April 2025 - 31 March 2026
