Woodend Tennis Club

Woodend Tennis Club Woodend Tennis Club - for tennis players from all ages and all walks of life. Competitive and recreational. It's a quick walk from Pegasus via Hakatere Road.

The Woodend Tennis Club is located in Gladstone Park on Gladstone Road (which comes off the Main Road through Woodend). Turning into Gladstone Park offers you the Rugby Clubrooms and playing fields on the left and off to the right you will find the tennis courts, club house and extensive parking lot (used by the rugby club as well). There are four courts in total. One open all year round and three

fenced off with lights and netball court markings. The Netball Club use these through the winter so the nets are usually down for this period. The courts do have some seating. There is a dual sided rebound wall with net markings available all year and, there is also a small playground for children. Whilst the clubhouse does have it's own toilets, there are separate male and female toilets maintained by the council. And if you simply want to have run around and throw a ball or a frisbee - there's plenty of room around the courts. The Woodend Tennis Club is affiliated with North Canterbury tennis and fields both junior and senior teams for inter club competition (usually held) on Saturdays. We are always looking for new players so please feel free to contact us at any time and any skill level is considered. There is a 2 court tennis court at the Woodend School (accessed via Rangiora Woodend Road) which is available year round and are managed by the council. Courts at Gladstone Park are ashphalt and the courts at Woodend School are a green rendered composite. SOCIAL TENNIS
Is held on Wednesday nights at the Gladstone Road courts. Come in and join and have a hit. $3 for non members. Balls provided. All skill levels. Games are usually doubles and teams are mixed. If numbers warrant it the lights can be turned on for later playing. COACHING
Coaching is available for all ages through either the Kaiapoi or Rangiora Tennis clubs - we don't have a set coach at Woodend - however we are more than happy to pass on your number so drop us a line. CONTACTS

As some of you will know ... one of our lights blew and we've finally been able to replace it.

Given the nature of the bulb, it's not as simple as heading down to your hardware store and buying another one. They are scarce as hen's teeth and expensive ($500+) and given they are 20+ years old, they are also pretty unqiue.

We purchased one that was found to be the incorrect model and it was only after getting up there and getting advice that we realised it was the wrong model.

Getting up there? The lights sit atop a 14 metre high pole which makes changing them a difficult and dangerous task.

We needed a tall machine to get up there as conventional scissor lifts wouldn't get anywhere near high enough.

Luckily our friends at Hire Rangiora were able to lend us one to get us up and down safely. We can not thank them enough for their help and expertise and kindness. If you're looking to hire anything - go see Pip and her team at Kennards Hire Rangiora - https://www.kennardshire.co.nz/branch/rangiora because we simply could not have done this without them.

Here are some photos of the third trip to replace the bulb.

So hopefully this is the end of the journey and we'll be back to four lights for the winter season.

Special thanks to Tracy, Karl, and Wayne for their dedication to getting this resolved.
