After having to run through Melbourne airport to catch our connecting flight back to Christchurch on our way home from the Australian Youth Nationals it felt easy getting on a domestic flight to Auckland.
I was representing New Zealand in the Oceania Championships that were held last week 🇳🇿.
The tournament started with practice followed by the first 720 round, with some beautiful windy Auckland weather I only shot 602, this put me 4 points behind Henry for the first day.
On day 2 we had the second 720 round, it started with windy conditions again but not as bad as the first day, I was struggling to find my rhythm and forgot to change back to my normal way of shooting after the wind of the previous day. After this I only scored 656.
In the afternoon we had round robin individual matchplay where I won all 3 matches.
Day 3 was teams matchplay, I was teamed up with Henry. These were elimination matches and we were up against the open category archers as well. We managed to win a couple of matches (even with both my self and Henry missing an arrow in the wind) and found ourselves in the gold medal match against Gary and Corban. We tried our best but lost this match by only 3 points.
The last day was the individual gold medal match against Henry. In the windy conditions it was anyone’s match to win. I started with one point up in the first end but with a couple of unlucky shots in the wind Henry took the win by 3 points.
It was a great experience and would love to do it again!
