Those are some pretty impressive numbers for the Viper Lures Invitational. Our previous best tally stood at 92 Marlin for the season and yet here we are at 106 already and only a week into April.
The Kawhia clan certainly have plenty to brag about with their tallies so far, yet for us Raglanites we will hold onto the fact that we have the lions share of the cash!!
Still plenty of time left for someone to land a Donkey and take home all the cash.

Hot Streak
How good is the fishing out West, Craig and Kenny with a very nice Blue out off Raglan on board Crackers.
That is 7 Striped Marlin and 1 Blue Marlin for Kenny for the past 2 days fishing!!
Five of those Stripey's and the Blue Marlin were all caught on the same Viper Slammer in Menace skirts, Outstanding fella's. Congrats

Holy smokes Batman!!!
Ken and Mark fishing on the good ship Game On fished North of the Mokau Trench on Friday for an incredible day.
First pass and the boys hooked a double, after dealing to both of those fish they made a second pass and hooked another double. That's 4 Stripey's caught and released by 9.30am.
Once the boys rerigged they proceeded to catch and release another 3 Stripeys and by 2 pm they had enough and headed for home, that's an epic 7 Stripey's from 8 bites and they pulled the pin early.
Add in the fact that Mark is recovering from a serious arm injury and is still in a sling so only operating at half throttle so I can understand Kenny opting out early afternoon after winching in 7 Marlin by himself.
The Viper Slammer in Menace skirt combo was the standout for the day going 5 from 5 and is currently 8 from 9 bites so far this season for these lads.
Congratulations guys that is a mammoth feat that very few will get to experience.

So good playing around with new combo's, 2 from 2 so far. Rigged up a new Viper Falcon with a single 9" black teaser squid and running the new Makau 9/0 single stainless hook on a wire leader, stoked! Time to rerig and get back out tomorrow.
100 -120 metres off the back of Gannet is holding good numbers of fish if your heading out tomorrow, see you out there.

Top Shelf
Some nice fish tagged yesterday from some of the crews fishing in the Viper Lures Invitational. I can't remember ever seeing fishing this hot, most boats are reporting multiple fish tagged each day. Four local boats I spoke to reported having 38 shots between them for one days fishing.
Better forward book that sick day for Friday!

Some nice gear heading out the door this morning and some awesome fishing still to be had around the place with the Mokau Trench providing some world class fishing earlier in the week.
Two boats I know had over 20 shots between them for one days fishing.
If your at a loss this weekend then the Te Mata club has their annual competition on Saturday and the weather for later in the week is looking awesome. Get into it!

Quit work folks!
Mark and Dave fishing on Headshot West of the mountain just snagged themselves two nice Stripey's, both on the Viper Slammer. One for the smoker and the other got to swim off.

I have now heard of 3 different boats having 14 shots between them over the past few hours, get out there!

These 9 inch squids are probably the cheapest thing you will ever buy in Game Fishing and added to your bite leader in front of your favourite lure can be one of the most effective exciters available.

We just landed a bunch and have them available in Pink, Purple, Blue, Green and Black. Not yet currently on the website so flick us a message to get your hands on some for the weekend.

A decent patch of weather last week certainly added a few numbers for the crews fishing the Viper Invitational.
As much as I don't like to admit it the Kawhia clan are starting to open up a bit of a lead on the Raglan crews, buggers need to get back to work.
Team Optimist still hanging in there with the heaviest weighed fish so far and one hand on the 10 grand cash.

Finally a bit of decent weather and the lads started racking a few good fish up in the Viper Lures Invitational 2023.
The Mokau Trench was holding real good numbers of fish and most boats were encountering multiple shots per day. Throw in a couple of Swords and a cracker of a Bigeye to the crew on Bucko and she was an epic few days.
The crew on Optimist taking over the lead for $10k cash with a nice Stripey of 131kg.
