A huge shout out to the Everett family, who are spending the European summer chasing races experience and UCI points across some of the toughest downhill tracks in the world.

Queenstown’s Reece Everett recently lined up at Round 3 of the European Downhill Cup in La Molina, Spain, finishing 26th out of 84 Pro U17 riders. Despite limited practice after helicopter evacuations disrupted the schedule, Reece battled through to another solid result and currently sits 13th overall after two rounds.

Last weekend, Reece and sister Nadia Everett raced the Propain Rookies Cup in Oberhof, Germany. Wild weather transformed the track throughout the weekend, making conditions incredibly challenging. Reece came away with 2nd in Pro U17 and 4th fastest overall across all U11-U19 categories. Nadia showed great speed in practice but changing conditions made it difficult to put together a clean race run.

The family is now based in Morzine, France, for a week of riding and testing before heading to another Continental Cup and the next European Downhill Cup round in Les Orres.

From Spain to Germany to France, they’re racing against some of the strongest junior fields in the world and gaining invaluable experience every step of the way.

We’re incredibly proud to see Reece and Nadia flying the flag for Queenstown and New Zealand on the international stage. 🇳🇿🔥

Good luck for the next rounds, team Everett! 👊

🥈 World Cup Podium for Malik Boatwright in Leogang!

Another huge result for the Southern Lakes gravity scene with Queenstown’s Malik Boatwright claiming 2nd place in the Junior Men’s Downhill World Cup at Leogang, Austria.

Malik laid down a blistering run to secure a World Cup podium against the best junior riders in the world and continue his impressive 2026 campaign.

Massive congratulations to Malik, the Atherton Racing team, and everyone back home supporting his journey. The future of New Zealand downhill racing is looking incredibly bright. 🇳🇿🔥

QMTBC is incredibly proud to see one of our local riders representing Queenstown on the world stage and mixing it with the very best young downhill racers on the planet.

And a special shout out to Jonty Williamson for taking the win and continuing his remarkable unbeaten start to the 2026 World Cup season. 👏🇳🇿

The UCI Mountain Bike World Series rolls into Leogang this weekend and a strong Queenstown and Central Otago contingent is ready to throw down on one of the most iconic downhill tracks in the world.

🔥 Indy Deavoll lines up in Junior Women sitting 5th overall in the World Cup standings after an impressive start to the season.

🔥 Malik Boatwright and Jack Sole will take on the stacked Junior Men’s field, racing against the fastest young downhillers on the planet.

🔥 Jess Blewitt returns to World Cup action in the Elite Women’s race.

🔥 Cooper Millwood (Alexandra) will represent Central Otago in Elite Men, while Bradley Harris and Marcus Sayers tackle the Enduro World Cup.

Leogang is a true DH track. Fast. Rough. Steep. Relentless.

With Kiwi riders already claiming World Cup wins, podiums and standout results this season, there’s plenty of momentum heading into Round 3.

We’ll be staying up late to watch this one.

Good luck to all the Kiwis racing this weekend, especially our local crew. Give it heaps. 👊🇳🇿

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the QMTBC AGM on Friday night, and to The Cargo Collective for hosting us.

It was a great opportunity to reflect on another massive year for mountain biking in Queenstown and share what’s ahead for the season to come.

Some highlights included:

• More than 2,100 members supporting mountain biking across the Whakatipu Basin
• Membership income exceeding $100,000 for the first time in club history
• More than $700,000 invested into trails, events, advocacy and community programmes
• Nearly $500,000 spent on trail maintenance and development
• $47,000 raised through Queenstown Bike Festival & MacGazza, supported by 70+ volunteers
• Pedals & Pints, Family Ride Nights, Women’s Rides Nights, Wednesday Dig Nights, Dirt Town Queens, CORO1200, Southern DH Series and more bringing our community together throughout the year.

A special moment on the night was recognising Bruce McLeod with a Life Membership Award. Bruce is entering his 14th year on the QMTBC committee and has made an enormous contribution to mountain biking in Queenstown. A thoroughly deserved honour.

Looking ahead, members heard updates on the Huck Yeah rebuild, Moonlight Track upgrades, progression areas in Ben Lomond and Fernhill, new trail signage and grading, Coronet Forest opening this summer, and ongoing advocacy and trail management work across the basin. We also heard from TRAC, who highlighted the growing economic contribution of mountain biking to the region and their commitment of $500,000 over five years towards maintaining the Coronet Forest trail network.

One of the strongest themes of the evening was QMTBC’s role as kaitiaki of mountain biking in Queenstown. Not because we own the trails or the land, but because we care for them, advocate for them, and help ensure they continue to thrive for future generations.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, sponsors, business partners, trail crews, land managers, event organisers and members. Together we’ve built something pretty special.

See you on the trails ya legends!. 👊

Fernhill Trail Update: Upper Wynyard Express

A huge thanks to the legends at ELEVATE TRAIL BUILDING who have been putting in the mahi on Upper Wynyard Express.

The team have buffed the berms, raked loose rock, cleared drainage and tweaked the exit line to improve rider safety.

Hero dirt and a trail that’s riding exceptionally well for winter.

If you’re heading out for a Fernhill lap this week, make sure Upper Wynyard Express is on your list.

Cheers Legends!

Back in January, QMTBC joined forces with Casey Brown and the Dark Horse crew for a Wahine Mulch Jump Session and Meet Up at Wynyard Bike Park.

It was all about bringing riders together, sharing knowledge, building confidence, and creating opportunities for the next generation of women freeride mountain biking.

A few months later, that opportunity has become a reality.

Wānaka riders Morgan Antone and Ruby Smith are heading to Canada to be part of Dark Horse 2026.

Morgan has been invited back to compete in the Dark Horse Freeride Invitational in Revelstoke, British Columbia, after attending the event last year.

Ruby has secured a place in the Dark Horse Youth Academy at SilverStar Bike Park and will also have the opportunity to ride alongside some of the sport’s most inspiring athletes at the Invitational.

Last night, around 120 riders, friends, families and supporters packed out b.effect in Wānaka for a fundraiser quiz night and silent auction to help Morgan and Ruby get to Canada, raising approximately $3,600 in a single evening.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes, bought tickets, placed bids, or helped make the night happen. Special thanks to Mops for keeping the energy high and the laughs rolling throughout the evening.

The generosity shown was a reminder of what makes the Queenstown and Wānaka mountain bike community so special.

There are still four spots available in the 2026 Dark Horse Youth Academy for women aged 14 to 27. If you know a wahine rider who would love the opportunity to learn, progress and connect with riders from around the world, there is still time to apply.

A special thank you to b.social for hosting the evening, and to Smith Optics, Line Skis, Wilson & Dorset, Rippon, Racers Edge Wānaka, POC, MEATER, Patagonia, YETI, CamelBak and OneUp Components for their generous support.

We’re incredibly proud to see Morgan and Ruby representing our region and carrying the spirit of our riding community onto the global freeride stage.
