On Saturday 31st of January, The men and women of the Gaels took eachother on to raise money for the local Fire Service, our charity this year.
The men who were wielding boxing gloves or Welly boots had a point to prove. They'd lost the last several annual iterations on the trot. The men started off well, scoring some early points and were in the green at the end of the first half. They'd been here before and know the women always come out strong in the second half. And sure enough, they did, Caoimhe Condon - player of the match was running the men ragged, Tom Fla was among many to be left in her dust. Should've been quacker Tom.
The women clawed back and took the lead. Their lead came with enough time to spare for the men to rally, Niall Quinn even came out of nets. The full time whistle went, it was all square. Golden goal. The women looked strong with an aggressive press Too aggressive, it seems the men capitalised, turned the screw and sealed the victory with a well worked goal to restake their claim on top of the Queenstown Gaels ladder. The women were distraught but could see the bigger picture and the whole team joined on the lakefront for a dip in the glorious late January sun. To further minimise any fractious energy the team headed out in the evening dressed to the nines, Darragh Murray a stand out dressed as thugmatic emo. He would later find out how hard eyeliner is to remove - the girlies had a small win at least. Pitbull was also seen with the Gaels on a marketing trip with Fireball Rounding off another fantastic weekend in the Queenstown Gaels calendar.
