The inaugural NZ Women’s Masters Tournament has officially wrapped up—and what a fantastic success it was.

As our first-ever event in this format, it exceeded expectations across the board. From the quality of cricket to the strong sense of community, the tournament provided an outstanding platform to build on for the future. Feedback from teams and players has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising not only the competitive matches but also the opportunity to reconnect and socialise with friends from across the cricketing network.

On the field, the competition was fierce and evenly matched throughout the two days. Many games went down to the wire, culminating in a thrilling final where NZ Police narrowly edged out Canterbury in a gripping contest to claim the title.

The tournament also showcased an impressive level of experience and talent, with Nine former internationals taking part—including two former Black Ferns athletes—adding depth and quality across all teams.

Off the field, the event was equally successful. With excellent weather, a superb venue, and strong support throughout, the tournament created a memorable experience for everyone involved.

We extend our congratulations to all teams for their efforts and spirit, and especially to NZ Police for taking out the inaugural title.

Individual performances were also a highlight of the week. Congratulations to:
• Player of the Tournament: Amiria Rule (C)
• Batter of the Tournament: Holly Huddleston (NZP)
• Bowler of the Tournament: Sherri Ball (RONZ)

We would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the organisations who helped bring this event to life:
New Zealand Cricket
• NZ Veterans Cricket
• Queenstown Cricket Club
• Heartland Cricket Trust

And our valued local sponsors:

Skyline Queenstown
KJET
The Crown Pub & Beer Garden

Your support was instrumental in making this inaugural tournament such a success.

We also thank our wonderful local umpires, junior helpers and local photographer Amanda.

Looking ahead, there is strong interest in building on this momentum.Plans are already being discussed to return next season, with a focus on growing the event and securing further sponsorship and funding. In addition, an NZ Invitational Women’s Masters team is set to tour Australia later this year—an exciting next step in the development of this format.
This is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing the journey with the NZ Women’s Masters in 2027 and beyond.

NZ women's Masters Day Two

Highlights:

Sian Ruck 42* (NZ Police)
Olivia Fraser 44* (Rest Of NZ)
Kelly Habraken 3-22 (NZ Police)
Holly Huddleston 53* (NZ Police)

Congratulations to NZ Police for taking out the first ever tournament - QUEENSTOWN 2026

Final:

Canterbury set a competitive total of 122 after choosing to bat first, building their innings around a composed 37 from former England international Mandie Godliman, who showcased her class with a range of elegant strokes. Amiria Rule provided excellent support with a steady 30, helping to anchor the innings.

With the ball, Zara McWilliams was outstanding with the new ball, returning impressive figures of 2 for 15 from her four overs, while Kelly Habraken made a strong impact by claiming three key wickets.

In reply, NZ Police came out firing, led by a quickfire 20 off 12 balls from Whetu Campbell that gave them early momentum. Canterbury fought back well, with Amiria Rule stepping up again—this time with the ball—taking two crucial wickets and finishing with figures of 2 for 33 to tighten the contest.

Despite the pressure, Holly Huddleston (53*) held her nerve, guiding NZ Police to victory with three balls to spare. It was a thrilling and closely fought encounter, truly worthy of a final.
