It's time for us to make the most of living in Jacks Point where we have one of the most scenic sports fields in the country! Many of us have been making murmurs for years about setting up a touch tournament based in Jacks and it's time....!
The aim is to be outdoors, play bit of casual / social sport, to have a good laugh and get as many JP residents involved as possible - all levels encouraged!!
We need to start small and see how this goes so here is the plan so far:
- WHEN - Thursday evenings during Term 4 and hopefully Term 1 (depending on interest)
- Start date Thursday 28th October, prize giving and wrap up for term 4 on the 16th December.
- WHAT - 6 aside and standard touch rules / field size. Each team probably wants around 10 players depending on fitness and how much game time everyone wants.
- Two grades - "Family Friendly" (minimum 2 kids / 2 girls required on the field at all times) & "Social Mixed" (minimum 2 girls on field at all times). A "kid" = Year 9 and under and no kids under 7 years old.
- 6:00pm / 6:30pm for Family Friendly grades & 7:00pm / 7:30pm for Social Mixed grades (again this will depend on number of teams in each grade).
- $120 per team per term (to cover QLDC field hire / markings, balls, bibs and prizes / prize giving). Any surplus $ will be put back into the JP community by donating to things such as a basketball hoop (recently discussed on JP residents page), bike track maintenance or donated to current RPS fundraisers (learning beyond the classroom / Deep Cove camp for example). There will also hopefully be the opportunity for kids to sell sausages etc to fundraise for specific things.
- REFS - We are working on this as it would be great to have a crew of refs (team of High School kids wanting to earn some $$ or a group willing to do it for drink vouchers?). Worst case scenario though each team will need to provide a player to ref a game each week (for either later or earlier game). There will be a "be cool / don't talk back policy" and the reffing gig won't be stressful!
- Draw for the term will be done once we have team names and numbers confirmed. Points table will also be circulated regularly.
- As we will only have 2 fields to begin with, we need to limit it to a maximum of 16 teams, preferably 8 family / 8 social mixed, although again this is flexible.
- If you want to play but don't have enough to make a team, please also get in touch as we are sure there will be teams requiring imports and super subs!
- Definitely open to suggestions / ideas / sponsorship / volunteers (especially refs?), etc!!
- More info to follow....
- To REGISTER - Comment on this post with the name of your team, (or contact name if you need more time to get creative with a name!), grade and a contact email and we will be in touch to arrange payment so you can confirm your spot!
