Punakaiki Horse Treks Horse riding into the scenic Punakaiki valley within Paparoa National Park, the ride finishes along the beach. Experienced guides and great team of horses!

We are now permanently closed. Beginning our popular 2.5 hour horse trek, we ford the Punakaiki River and take the scenic route to view the stunning scenery of the Paparoa National Park. We ride through native bush as we gaze up at 300-foot-high huge limestone cliffs capped with lush temperate rainforest. This scenic feast is rounded off with a stroll down Punakaiki beach. fers invigorating and enjoyable horse riding in a natural and safe environment suited to all levels of riders. We also offer personalised treks for riders who would like extras tuition or a horse ride designed to their capabilities. Young children can enjoy led-rides on the beach. Additionally, we have 6 beautiful 1, 2 and 3 bedroom cottages set amongst native bush with panoramic sea views. Our Hydrangea Cottages are located 600m south of the Pancake Rocks (one of New Zealand's premier tourist attractions). There is a special discount for people joining our horse treks if you are staying at one of the cottages. Please call us to discuss the possibilities!

After 23 years of running the Horse Treks, Neil and I have decided to close the business.

We remember the wonderful customers we have had, and the ones who have put up with riding in the rain!

Over this time many people have guided for us and put their heart and soul into the work. We thank you all.

And finally the horses, some of the most wonderful animals to live alongside us and perform brilliantly on the job (mostly😊)

Matt our farrier has shod some of our horses - so we are now open for the season!
