The Prebbleton Cricket Club took centre stage on Hagley Oval Number 1 over the weekend, lining up against the Richmond Rhinos at the most iconic ground in Christchurch, and the lads certainly rose to the occasion.
In a dominant display, Prebbleton secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory, built on a ruthless performance in the field. The Rhinos were bundled out for just 77 runs, with every bowler playing their part in what was a complete team effort. The pressure never lifted, and wickets fell steadily throughout the innings.
Bowling figures:
Cory 3–9
Jackson 2–9
Krimmy 2–12
Lachie 2–17
Padi 1–3
Bailey 0–17
Liam 0–4
After strapping on the pads, the intent was clear from ball one. Openers Finley and Jordan wasted no time getting the scoreboard ticking, setting the tone with positive stroke play. Although three wickets fell during the chase, there was never any doubt about the approach: play aggressively, clear the rope, and finish it quickly.
The target was chased down in just 11 overs.
Finley led the charge with a classy 44 not out, while Lachie added a valuable 15. Cory chimed in with 9 not out and, controversially, pinched what looked to be Finley’s well-deserved half-century. Finley was reportedly “fine with it”… but Cory will still be fined accordingly.
Batting highlights:
Finley 44*
Lachie 15
Cory 9*
Adding to the effort, the annual Otematata Cricket Trip happened to fall on the same weekend. Massive credit to Lachie, Jacob, and Jackson who made the long drive back to Christchurch to ensure the side had the numbers to take the field on this special occasion. True commitment. They were back in Otematata that evening celebrating the win in proper Prebbleton fashion.
A huge thank you to Peter Meecham for capturing some outstanding photos from the match. The boys are extremely grateful, and with so many great shots, there will need to be a second post to do them all justice.
Another big thanks to all the friends and family who came down to support. Your backing week in and week out does not go unnoticed.
This weekend, the boys return home to Prebbleton Cricket Ground Number 1 for a clash with Merivale Papanui, our first home game since early December due to a string of byes, bad weather and public holidays. We’d love to see a strong crowd down there supporting the lads.
Look out for a second post with the rest of the photos.
Cheers
