Osu Everybody, sad news.
Jun Shihan Kathy has passed away. A Motueka student whom, with her brother Senpai Rex built the Motueka Dojo.
She moved to Nelson when she was a 1st kyu, if I remember correctly.
Some thoughts from Sensei Jenny.
We are saddened to share that our beloved sister and sister-in-law, Jun Shihan Kathy, passed away peacefully yesterday, 13 June, on her 78th birthday.
Jun Shihan Kathy lived well with Parkinson’s for many years. She embraced life, surrounded by the support of friends and family. With her wonderful laugh, she followed her heart and inspired friendship, loyalty, and love. She contributed to Seido Karate in many ways—as an author, teacher, mentor, and through her support in building the Motueka and Nelson dojos. Although her illness eventually prevented her from training, she is respected, never forgotten and continued to enjoy a rich social life with senior karateka.
On a personal level, Kathy welcomed me—a young solo mum—into her family more than 40 years ago with warmth and good cheer. Over the years, we shared many conversations about life and karate, often over refreshments. Rex also had a very special connection with his big sister.
Jun Shihan Kathy had a wonderful command of language and enjoyed a rich and varied career.
To honour and remember Jun Shihan Kathy, our family invites you to a celebration of her life at:
Shone and Shirley Funeral Directors, 164 Tahunanui Drive
Friday 19th June at 3 pm, with viewing from 2 pm.
