A fresh setup for a Fairlight Cycles Holt headed out for some adventures in Japan 🇯🇵

Custom triple zip frame bag in Ultra200x white, bolt on and daisy chain attachment, and some tan stitching. Paired up with a set of 8L Mountain panniers. Can’t wait to see them on the bike!

The Rata 40 comes with your choice of side compression - 20mm webbing with a ladderlock buckle, paracord with a side release buckle, or none at all. Beyond cinching the load, they’re useful for strapping bulky gear to the outside of the pack when you need the extra capacity - tent, sleeping mat, trekking poles. The pack grows with what you need to carry.

Perfection in every stitch 👌

It’s a huge amount of work to get this machine set up to sew something - figuring out how it can be sewn, designing and making clamps and fixtures, programming the sewing, and sometimes this process has to be repeated because the first try just doesn’t work.

Is it worth it? Probably not for the quantities I do but I enjoy it and the results are excellent.

Comfort matters when you’re out for a full day on the trail. The Rata 40 has contoured shoulder straps to fit the natural curves of the body, with an adjustable sternum strap to dial in the fit. With 8mm EVA foam and 3mm spacer mesh, the weight disappears into your back the way a good pack should.

Getting here wasn’t straightforward - the shoulder straps went through at least 10 iterations before I was happy with them. The shape, the padding thickness, the construction method - all of it was tested and reworked until it felt right.
