That was a fantastic way to end the season with the Wellington Graded Champs!

Congratulations to U15 Dreadnoughts who came second overall for the cup - a nail biting game with 0-0 at full time, 0-0 with extra time and then narrowly missing out on the cup in the penalty shootouts! :-)
Congratulations also to U15 Black (combination Dragons and Rangers) who came second in the plate finals.

A reminder that the U15 prize giving is this coming Saturday 16th September 2023 from 11am-1pm at the club rooms. Please bring a shared plate for lunch. Please bring back your playing shirt to the prizegiving or give it to your coach before the weekend if you are not able to attend.

Lastly, don't forget that there is no training this coming Thursday! See you at prizegiving.

- September 16th (Saturday) - Shared lunch and prizegiving at Endeavour Park club rooms from 11am - 1pm

Hey all. Well done on making it one month into the season! A couple of things:
1) As many of you will have noticed, the combination of the rain and football games has made some of our regular fields a bit unusable. Expect to have home games on a different field for a while or to need to travel a bit for an away game while these fields recover.
2) Just a note on head injuries. We've had a few instances of concussion across the club over the last few weeks. If your footballer gets a knock to the head they MUST come off the field to be checked rather than just shaking it off. Please let your footballers' know that this is important.
3) There was a general discussion at the junior committee meeting about some poor parent behaviour on the sidelines over the last couple of weeks. Fortunately, our U15 parents are pretty awesome and have been around the club for a while. However, it is a good reminder for us all to ensure that we keep our sideline comments positive and focused on supporting our players. Leave the coaching to the coaches, and let's continue to role model the behaviour that we want to see in our kids.

Here are some dates for upcoming preseason trainings:
1) Thursday 23/3, 6pm-7pm @ Endeavour - Preseason casual training: small sided mixed team games.
2) Thursday 30/3, 6pm-7pm @ Endeavour - Preseason casual training: small sided mixed team games.
3) Western Suburbs U15 trials 4/4, 5.30pm-6.30pm @ Bernie Wood Turf - U15 trails

You should have Friendly Manager invites for all three. Ping me a PM if you are missing these.

Following U15 trials, the U15 coaches will get together (over some well earned refreshments!) to sort our grade into this year's teams. From that point, we will continue preseason training at Ascot Park until the season starts.

If you are reading this and you (or someone you know in U15) hasn't yet registered this year, please crack on with that!

1) Trials will be around the last week of March/first week of April
2) Preseason training will start in early April
3) The first game of the season is on the 29th April

Well that was a bit of a mud pit at Alex Moore on the weekend!

I got asked by a couple of parents why we played when it was so muddy. The North Welly coach and myself had a chat before the game to decide whether to play or not due to the field condition. After that chat we decided that we were all there, ready and wanting to play, the weather looked clear for the day, while the pitch was slippery there wasn't much danger to players beyond them slipping over, and that the field conditions equally disadvantaged both teams.

So while the games on Alex Moore weren't the best display of football ever seen from either side, it did give us opportunities as teams to see a challenge on the field and to adapt our strategy to accommodate it...and what 14/15/16 year old doesn't like getting a bit muddy! :-)

6 games until the end of the season all!!! 🥺This time of year always comes around too quickly.

Dates for your diaries:
1) 9th September 6pm-8pm - U15 prize giving and shared dinner
2) 10th September - Last game day of the season.
3) 18th September - Wests Wellington Grade Champs tournament (more details coming out about team selection for this soon)
4) TBC - U15 kids vs. parents games. Keep an eye out for comms from your coach on this hotly contested event each year. From memory, the parents took the kids to school last year so these will be some serious grudge matches!

Nice work Wests U15 teams. We took away four out of four wins this weekend. Special call out to the Jets players Toby, Nathan and Isaac (and Dan who reffed) who helped fill in the gaps for Vulcans.
