I actually can’t remember exactly when I first met Adam. I remember Scotty though — he was the only guy in the Under 12s who had a moustache, and to be fair it was a bit much at the time! I asked Dad who that was and he said, “Don’t worry.” Mum and Dad were friends with the Vardeys so I just thought they must be ok.
The Vardeys always seemed to pop up when it was rugby season, turns out they went alright 😏.
I was lucky enough for Adam to take me under his wing at Norths before his stint in Australia.
When I’d just opened Urban, Adam had just got back from Australia and started helping in with a few workouts. Before long, he came on as one of our trainers, and to be honest we weren’t really sure what we were doing at the time. But 11 years later, everyone that was part of that journey and got to spend time with Adam would have experienced something special — something you probably only come across once in a lifetime, maybe im a little bias?
We spent a lot of time training together, but as good as that was, it was the small things that stand out the most. The pathetic relationship advise he gave me, showing me this is how you lift and then watching him break his wrist and then drop a bar on his face 🤣 some days we wouldn’t even talk! That’s was Adam sometimes, grumpy as fu !!!
Urban has a very strong family culture; I wasn’t a father yet but as soon as I was I started to understand stand why Adam showed up every week and did what he did!
His girls came first!
“Mate we have a Xmas party this weekend”, “I’m out bro, the girls have flag” he’d turn up but they came first; every time 🥰
His drive for his girls was what flowed over into his work, his business, and his time spent with people around him. He constantly gave, and we were very lucky to be a part of it.
To his girls - your father will forever be the best dad in the world. He’ll never leave your side and will be there every step of the way in your life!
I just want to thank the Vardy family for allowing us to spend some quality time with Adam while he was unwell, and during the time of the tangi when everything was a bit much. Being able to spend that time with him meant more than I can put into words.
To sit with him, talk with him, and just be present in those moments is something we’ll always be grateful for. I’m grateful for everything this man has given us and I’m privileged to have been apart of his journey 🥰🥰
