Senior Rugby, Junior Rugby, Netball & Touch The club has grown with its community through the years and now supports more than just rugby.

Morrinsville Rugby and Sports club was formed formed in 1996 by the amalgamation of Marist-St Josephs and Morrinsville Old boys rugby clubs. The union of the clubs was intended to unite rugby within the community and prevent the exodus of talented players to the Hamilton clubs. Currently, Morrinsville Sports has rugby teams for Senior A & B, Colts, U85kg and Golden Oldies as well as Rugby 7’s and

13 grades of junior rugby. In Netball the club has up to 6 Teams competing in the Thames Valley Competition and numerous junior teams. In the summer the club hosts a 14 week, 46 team touch module. Within its short history the club has had reasonable success. In 2009 the Senior A rugby team won the Waikato Breweries Shield for the Premier Competition. Locally they were awarded Piako Sports Team of the year for this success. The U85kg team has also had its fair share of success winning their grade in 2011, 2012, 2017, 2019, 2020 & 2022
The Colts are also very successful, making the play-offs most seasons and winning outright in 2012 & 2018. The clubrooms themselves are often found to be the hub of community events hosting wedding receptions, Tai Chi, 21st celebrations and more. Looking to the future, Morrinsville sports has a vision to support the needs of the community as much as the community provides support for the club. As we grow and evolve we strive for excellence in every aspect of what we do, while holding onto that friendly country club culture that makes us unique.

2026 touch registrations are open now!

Three kick off times at 5:45pm, 6:30pm, 7:15pm. One game per night, with 20-minute halves.
Two grades - Competitive (adults + Yr 9+) or Social/Whānau (adult/kid mix, Yr 8 and below).
Social/Whānau grade will take the 5:45pm and 6:30pm slots.

2026 Touch season is calling… 👀

Here’s what you need to know:

Thursday nights, one game per night (20-minute halves).
Three rounds: kick-offs at 5:45pm, 6:30pm, 7:15pm.
Two grades: Competitive (adults + Yr 9+) and Social/Whānau (adult/kid mix, Yr 8 and below).
Social/Whānau grade takes the 5:45pm and 6:30pm slots.
Cash draw in clubrooms each week and lots of hot food available.

Most Promising Player – Ronin Stephenson

Ronin made a significant positional change over the pre-season, transitioning from halfback to loose forward. Considering this was his first season in the forwards, the progress he made throughout the year was outstanding. He earned several starting opportunities through consistent improvement and work ethic. Week after week he put his body on the line defensively, showed a willingness to learn, and never stopped competing. His attitude and development make him a deserving recipient of the Most Promising award.

Team Man – Jarrod Gellert

Jarrod embodied what it means to be a team man. He took ownership of running the fines session every Tuesday without fail, making it something the whole squad looked forward to. His “spin the wheel” concept became a highlight of the week and played a big part in building team culture and keeping everyone involved. The fact he received the most fines himself shows he was never above being part of the fun. His contribution off the field had a genuine positive impact on the group.
 
Player of the Year – Lionel Evans

Lionel was exceptional throughout the season. Playing tighthead prop, arguably the most demanding position on the field, he consistently produced high-quality performances, including several full 80-minute games. He was dominant in the scrum, physical around the field, and made a major contribution on both attack and defence. His consistency, durability and influence every week make him my Player of the Year.

Most Promising: Ben Rollerson

Ben has been one of our most relied on players this year. He’s a very skilful and intelligent rugby player, but what really stands out is his determination. Ben simply never gives up - always pushing through and giving everything he’s got right until the end. With his skill, work ethic, and attitude, he has a very bright future ahead of him.

Team Man: Joeli Tabakinabou

Joeli has been a massive team man throughout the season. No matter what’s been thrown his way, he’s never dropped his lip and has always turned up, even when carrying injuries. He brings a happy, positive attitude and is always willing to get stuck in and support the boys. His commitment, attitude, and team-first mentality make him a bloody great club man. Thank you Joeli – we are lucky to have you.

Player of the Year: Daniel McQuoid

Dan has been instrumental in this year’s success – not just for the development team, but the whole senior squad. He consistently leads by example with his attitude, commitment, and work ethic.

He is a very talented rugby player, but it’s his willingness to do whatever is required for the club, without hesitation, that really sets him apart. A great player, an even better club man, and a very deserving MVP.

We wish Dan all the best on his overseas adventure and hope to see him back in the Morrinsville Sports colours in the future.

Most Promising: Maddy Peach

Great season for Maddy, not playing rugby before like a lot of our players, she was committed to learn, dedicated to do the extra work and one off the fittest in the team. had her on the wing first game, then put her at blindside and she stayed there for rest of season, getting to know her role as flanker and she just got better every game in all areas. our last game she was brilliant tackled like a demon, strong carries and into everything, also late in the game Kihikihi full back busted our defense but who turned around and chased her down and saved a try Maddy. Maddy you should be proud of what you achieved this year.

Team Person: Kaya Ashley

Great team member(leader)Kaya right from the start was committed to get this team up and running, always there to help, our social media person, recruiting players, part off senior leadership group and keeping us coaches and manager on our toes. On the field she was just as good, playing 1st five no easy feat for her first year playing 15s made heaps of tackles and had a good feel for the game had a good eye for gap in a defense and had the confidence to take it. Kaya thank you for your contribution this year on an off the field.

Player of the Year: Louise Dijkstra and Nicole Marwick (Boots)

Louise- What a freak and only 16 yrs old player to watch out for. where do i start mostly played lock but can play 6,7 and 8. for a young player she has mental toughness. fit as, puts her body on the line every game, she gets a bang gets straight up with a smile and carries on no fuss and saves a try or 2 every game she just knows where to be in all aspects of the game. look forward to seeing you next year, well deserved. Nicole (Boots)- Another freak but with a lot of rugby experience. Tough, led from the front every game she played, most turnovers and tackles for the team even when the ball carrier weighed 140kgs she never shies away, Boots dropped them. She did get bumped off a couple of times but got straight back up and made up for it at the next play, high work rate always in support scored a few tries. Thanks, Boots, loved your Mahi and I know you love the game and playing this year. Looking forward to seeing you next season.

Most Improved: Brad Magon

Brad has shown massive improvement throughout this season and has come a long way in his rugby journey. Not only has he grown tremendously as a player, but he's also an all-round great guy who brings a positive attitude to the team every week.

Team Man: Jamie Walton

If you looked up "team man" in the dictionary, you'd probably find a picture of Walt. Everything he does is for the benefit of the team, always putting others before himself and leading with one of the biggest hearts in the team.

Garden Shed (MVP Points): Max Smithies

Our Player of the Day voting runs on a 3, 2, 1 points system, with points accumulated across the season. Consistently performing week after week and earning the respect of his teammates, Max has finished with the most points and is a very deserving winner of the Garden Shed Award.

Player of the Year: Conner Petersen & Simon Sia

This year's Player of the Year was simply too close to call, with Simon and Conner both outstanding throughout the season. Simon Sia has put his body on the line week in and week out, leading from the front and being a pillar of strength for the team all year. Conner Peterson is an absolute workhorse whose effort, commitment, and physical presence have been a massive asset to the team. He consistently gives everything he has and has been a key reason for our success this season.
