The annual fixture between the Morrinsvillle Sports Rugby Knights and the Morrinsville Creamers (Masters) was held at the Recreation grounds last Sunday.
Batting first, the Creamers were set back early when talisman Rhys McCowatt went bowled for a golden duck from the elusive bowling of Knights stalwart Tom Gibberd. Young Finn Wilson dismissed the dangerous James Thomas early, expertly caught behind by outstanding keeping from his father, Andre Wilson. With 3 wickets down the Creamers then fought back with brilliant batting from JT junior, Matt Thomas (49 no) and Muddogs legend Brendan Revell (67 no), putting together an unbeatable partnership.

Knights captain Paul Keogh juggled his bowlers trying to find a break through. He found a golden arm in Todd Makeham who bowled Dave Nickalls for a duck. But the tail wagged and with 6 retirees the Creamers posted an untouchable 300 runs. Ring in Haggis junior, Corey Hagoort was the pick of the Knights bowlers, troubling some of the top order players.

The Knights started the reply fast, Andre Wilson playing some magnificent cover drives (40) and Paul Keogh cutting a nice (20), and Claude Piggott (15) forced a captaincy change. Mike Butler retiring with a stiff neck and fatigue, Chris Mourits then took over guiding the well experienced Creamers team and brought on Ants Richies and Dave Nickalls to get four key wickets, which halted the Knights run chase, Creamers Man of the match was Dave Nickalls picking up 2 wickets with his baffling deliveries.
Final result a comfortable win to the Creamers by 175 runs. Much like the annual Black Clash, Team Cricket now lead the series 4-2.

Creamers played the Knights on the 2023 Easter weekend and came away with a victory. The fruit of their loins led the way in this memorable match up.

The Creamers fell short against the Cambridge Antiques last Sunday. Chasing down our 195 with an over to spare. Creamers required 2 more wickets but couldn't quite close the deal. An extra 20 runs to the Creamers total would've been ideal. Man of the match was Claude who was busy in the field and picked up a couple of nice wickets at the finish.
Next game will be late January. 🏏👍🏻

A beautiful morning in Morrinsville for a competitive game of cricket against the old foe.
Stand in skipper Rodney won the toss and elected to bowl on another well curated pitch, which had a bit of everything on offer.
To be honest we bowled, fielded and caught extremely well (Molly taking 3 catches)…also a big shout out to PK and Mike F for a terrific effort behind the stumps for that we can keep our heads high, restricting the planks to 160-8.
As you know Cricket can be a fickle mistress…
Planks new man mountain Quentin on debut ripping through the top order taking 3-15 off 6, with some great support from Grant 0-9 off 6, for the Creamers to be 3-31after 12 overs.
Some solid batting from Joe, Steve and Tex steering us in the right direction, but needing a 6 on the last ball a bridge too far…loss by five runs. But vengeance will be ours next time.
Huge shout out to Rico again for his time and effort into producing another great wicket.
Onward and upward lads.
