Flexibility was never the entry requirement. Showing up was.

So many people put off starting yoga because they think they need to touch their toes first, or already be 'the type' who does this. That's backwards, and probably 99% of people in my life say this to me...

The practice is what builds the flexibility, not the other way around. What it actually asks of you on day one is much simpler and much harder, just be here.
Roll out the mat even when you don't feel like it. Show up stiff, tired, distracted, whatever you are that day. You'll always feel better for it.

Every long time practitioner you admire started exactly where you are now.

Some of the steadiest people I know never had a practice, because nobody ever made the entry point feel like it was for them.

This Father's Day at Anahata, we're making that entry point a little easier. Whether it's a dad, a grandad, or the steady presence in your life who's never quite gotten around to trying yoga (or you, easing yourself back into practice after a break), here's your way in.

🎁 5 Class Pass now $70 (was $90)
🎁 1 Month New Student Pass now $59 (was $79)

Yoga was never about arriving flexible or experienced. It's about showing up, one honest breath at a time, the same steadiness we talk about on this page, just now with a lower barrier to actually start.

Use code FATHERSDAY5 for a 5 day pass or FATHERSDAYNEW for a 1 Month Unlimited pass at checkout.

Offer ends Sep 6th.

Gift it, use it yourself, or send it to the person who's been "meaning to try yoga" for the last three years. This is their sign.

Three people, three different bodies, three different days they're each having, but its the exact same pose.

This is one part of yoga I LOVE. Nobody in this room is doing this asana (crescent lunge) identically. There are different stances, different reach, different ease in the shoulders, different depth in the front knee. And none of that matters.

What matters is that everyone's here, arms up, breathing through the same held stillness at the same moment.

Aside from that, here is what crescent lunge is actually doing:

* Legs & hips: deep engagement through the front quad and glute, while the back leg opens the hip flexor, which is one of the tightest, most neglected areas for anyone who sits most of the day

* Core & balance: staying upright and steady here builds genuine core strength, not just the visible kind, more so the deep stabilising muscles that keep you balanced in everyday movement

* Chest & shoulders: the overhead reach opens the chest and shoulders, encouraging a fuller breath and countering the forward hunched posture most of us carry

* Nervous system: poses that combine strength with an open chest tend to build genuine confidence in the body, it's hard to feel small while holding this shape

It asks for strength through the legs and openness through the chest at the same time, which is a pretty good metaphor for most of what yoga actually asks of you.

Movement was never about matching the person next to you. It's about finding your own steady shape in the room, but together.

It's Monday night, school starts again tomorrow, and I had three days back in London to get ready for it then a stomach bug took a good chunk of that straight off the table. 😪

So tonight isn't the calm, organised catch up I'd planned. It's laptop open on one side, work wear hung up on the other, and a much shorter list of what actually got done.

Reconciling last month's numbers. Replying to a collegue. Exam papers to review.
Checking cover with my team.
Planning social media.
Emails.

Honestly, this is a pretty accurate picture of what running something remotely actually looks like, not the tidy version, the real one, where three days becomes one evening and you just do what you can with what's left.

Term starts tomorrow either way. Here's to doing it anyway. 🤍

Happy September and see you on the mat again soon!

Something I didn't expect to feel standing in front of the Taj Mahal is that it's not really a monument to death. It's a monument to the heart.🤍

Shah Jahan built it for his wife, Mumtaj Mahal, after she died, 22 years of work, thousands of artisans, an entire life poured into one act of devotion.

Whatever you think about the history, standing in front of it, you can feel that it wasn't built from obligation. It was built from love that had nowhere else to go.

Our studio is named Anahata for a reason, it's the Sanskrit name for the heart chakra, the energy center associated with love, compassion, and connection.

In yoga, Anahata literally translates to "unstruck" or "unhurt" which means at the heart of it, the idea that at your core, there's a part of you love can reach that grief and struggle can't actually touch.

Standing in Agra, in front of a building that took a broken heart and turned it into something the whole world still comes to see 400 years later, that idea stopped being just a concept on a chakra chart. It became something I could actually see.

You don't need a monument to prove your heart's capacity for love. But it's a good reminder that what starts in devotion tends to outlast almost everything else.

And our devotion to ourself starts with taking care of ourselves and others.

May your day be heart filled!

Your nervous system doesn't know the difference between "busy" and "in danger."
To your body, a full inbox and a genuine threat can trigger almost the same response. Your heart rate up, breath shallow, muscles braced, digestion and rest pushed to the bottom of the priority list. It doesn't ask why you're activated. It just responds.

That's why "just relax" never works when you're wired from a full day. You can't think your way out of a nervous system state, you have to signal safety to your body directly.

✨️It takes a slow exhale. Feet on the floor. A few minutes of stillness with nowhere to be.

This is genuinely one of the biggest things I want people to understand before they ever step on a mat: yoga isn't a workout you're doing to your body. It's one of the fastest ways to tell your nervous system, gently, "we're okay now."

If you've been running on busy for a while, this is your reminder that being productive and being safe are not the same thing, and your body has been waiting for you to notice the difference.

Tonight's full moon isn't just full, it's eclipsed.

The Sturgeon Moon gets its name from the giant fish once abundant in the Great Lakes at this time of year, but tonight it's sharing the sky with a partial lunar eclipse, which means the moon isn't just illuminated, it's partially shadowed too.

Light and shadow, in the same moment, in the same sky.

That's basically the whole practice, isn't it, especially when it comes to yoga!

In yoga, the full moon has always been treated as a moment of culmination. Its not a beginning, an arrival.

It's traditionally seen as a time to notice what's reached its peak. what you've built, what's grown, what's finally visible after weeks of quiet effort.
Its a moment of a reset.

And an eclipse adds something to that, a reminder that even at your fullest, brightest moment, there can still be a shadow moving across part of you.

That's not a flaw in the moon. It's not a flaw in you either.

Some lineages use tonight specifically for release, not for setting new intentions, but for consciously letting go of whatever's served its purpose. A full moon night is traditionally considered too energetically "full" for deep, active practice, I always feel this way!

so if your body wants stillness tonight instead of a strong flow, that's not laziness. That's the moon doing its job.

Tonight, try this instead of a full practice:
🌕 A few slow, grounding breaths before bed
🌕 A short journal prompt: what am I ready to release?
🌕 Or simply step outside and actually look at it
You don't have to believe in moon magic to feel something shift when you stop and actually look up.

Take a moment.

I have a garden the size of a yoga mat in North London. That's enough.

Sadhana isn't about the perfect studio, the golden hour light, or a retreat in the Himalayas, I've had all of those and this backyard practice taught me just as much.

It's about showing up, every day, in whatever square metre you've got.

This is what consistency actually looks like behind the curated feed.

No filter, no incense, just grass and a mat and 10-20 minutes before the day takes over.

If you're waiting for ideal conditions to start your practice, this is your sign that you don't need them.

Save this for the next time you tell yourself you "don't have space."

Shavasana just got an upgrade 👀

I arrived back from Nepal with an idea of yoga pillows. Every stitch has a story.

These handmade pillows went from "wouldn't it be nice if..." to a real thing my mum and I made over the weekend and sent from the Waikato.

They were made to hold you exactly where you need it, so you can rest a little deeper.

Come test the comfort for yourself.

And a massive shout out to the pro designer and sewer my Mum 🤍🤍🤍
