Kapiti Hot Yoga, home of the original 26+2 hot yoga series

Kapiti Hot Yoga, home of the original 26+2 hot yoga series Welcome to Kapiti Hot Yoga, we teach the original 26+2 hot yoga sequence, commonly known as Bikram Yoga. Heat + Yoga, how it works.

The sequence is made up of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises and is practiced in a heated room. When the body is warm, muscles, fascia, and connective tissue are more elastic allowing for greater flexibility and less chance of injury. Combine this with the intelligent sequence of poses that safely stretches & strengthens muscles, ligaments, and joints, and you have the perfect system of exerc

ise to bring back natural range of motion to bodies. The sequence is made up of beginner's poses and is suitable for all abilities. Our goal is to teach students to take each pose step by step. Step one, learning to engage the right muscles and align the body. Step two, learning to breathe and still the mind once in the pose. And, step three, finding your depth, both physically and mentally. Students are led through the sequence by a set of detailed instructions designed to guide them in and out of poses safely. All classes are the same; same poses, same breathing exercises, same instructions - so you know exactly what to expect.

A little over six weeks ago, we set ourselves a simple challenge.

To keep showing up through winter.

Today, we're incredibly proud to share the result.

Together, we donated 45 PAIRS OF PYJAMAS to the PJ Project, helping keep children warm this winter.

It's a reminder that small actions, repeated consistently, can have a bigger impact than we realise.

After all, that's exactly what a yoga practice is.

To every single person who took part, thank you.

Your commitment to your practice became something much bigger than yourselves.

We're incredibly proud of what we achieved together. ❤️

⭐⭐And, a special thank you to Sai Spice And Superette in Paraparaumu, who generously covered the cost of couriering all 45 pairs of pyjamas to the PJ Project. Your kindness helped make this possible.

Proudly supporting ❤

This month's reflection is written by fellow 26+2 teacher Susan Knox.

As I read her thoughts on discipline, I realised how much my own understanding of the word has evolved over the years.

When I first began practising, discipline often felt like following the rules.
Over time, I've realised it's something much quieter.

It's choosing to come back.

Listening to your body.

Knowing when to challenge yourself and when to rest.

Susan captures that shift beautifully, and I hope her words give you something to reflect on too. Read the full reflection here: https://www.kapitihotyoga.co.nz/blog/discipline-in-262-how-our-understanding-has-evolved💕

One of the most powerful lessons in the 26+2 practice has nothing to do with flexibility. Or fitness. Or weight loss.

It is learning to let go.

Sanja, one of our regulars articulates it perfectly:
"The discomfort of a pose, and learning to let go. That's a teacher for life. Leaning into discomfort, breathing through it, that's the most important lesson I got through yoga."

I think many of us spend our lives trying to avoid discomfort. Hot Yoga offers a different approach.

To stay.

To breathe.

To observe.

To discover that we are often capable of far more than we initially believe.
And sometimes that lesson follows us well beyond the hot yoga room.

Most people think concentration means never getting distracted.

Yoga teaches us something different.

The goal is not to stop the mind wandering. The goal is to notice that it has wandered and bring it back.

Getting distracted is normal.

The practice is returning.

Every return strengthens attention.

Every return builds awareness.

Every return is part of the work.
