Well thats it, our last KTB class was on Wednesday.
Thanks everyone who came along for a last biff at the shed.
It was great to see some old faces, and also having some other gyms coming along too, as well as others joining us at the pub.
A highlight was Jeff Sutherland coming along, as he was one of Barry’s first students who switched from Kempo to Muay Thai back in ‘89.
Also a huge surprise was seeing Ray Perry over from Oz, as he too was an early student of Barry’s, and has continued his position as an integral cog in the TBA machine for many, many years.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my senior students for taking up the slack with classes throughout the last 6 months, most especially Luke Dixon & Jayde Sutherland. Without their help we would’ve shut the doors much earlier.
Also a special mention to Damon Smith 🙏
The past 26 years of my involvement in Muay Thai in NZ has been quite a ride.
From fighting to officiating, coaching(volunteering), counselling and everything in between, it’s been hugely rewarding, and at times bloody scary.
I’ve met some amazing people, and have made lifelong friends.
And the one who started it for me, of course, is Barry Page.
From ‘82 when I joined Kempo, to ‘99 joining KTB, Mr Page has been a mentor, a father figure, and a friend.
Barry would regularly bring Ajarn Chai to NZ for seminars, which upskilled coaches & students around the country, selflessly promoting Muay Thai.
Behind every good man is a great woman. For Barry, this is Marcia. Thank you Marcia, for everything that you have done for the sport, and for me.
And lastly, to Kim, without whom I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. We’ve been through good times and bad with this sport, and you’ve stuck by me no matter what.
Thank you my love.

Enough of this now, times up…
🙏

Big news for Kapiti Thai Boxing… we’re closing our doors for good.
Last training day will be Wednesday 17th December.
It would be awesome to see past members for one last hit, then off to the boundary in Raumati for some drinks.
KTB was formed in 1989 by Barry Page. He and Marcia ran a tight ship for many years, until Barry’s retirement in 2019.
I was Barrys student from 1999, and carried the torch for 6 more years after he retired, but now it’s time to say goodbye.
Barry and Marcia will be joining us at the Boundary also, so it will be great to see old students for a farewell drink.
🙏

Reubens latest bash.
First round KO, not bad for a padded match.
Cheers to Shayne @ Throwdown for the promotion, and Rikki for getting in there.
Big thanks to Luke, Jayde, and D for cornering for Reuben.
🙏

Another excellent day of fights at Gauntlet 5 in Palmy today.
After a minutes silence in remembrance of Tojo, the fights began.
Jayde was representing Kapiti today, up against Will from Misfit.
Jayde started off hard and fast, and after 30seconds Will couldn’t continue after an 8 count.
Well done Jayde, and thanks to Luke and D for warming him up and cornering 🙏
Massive thanks to Myke and the Misfit/Mana crew for another cool show 🙏

Very sad news, Tojo will be missed terribly 🩷Rest in love my friend 🙏

Capital Punishment 74 all wrapped up.
Main event was a tag team of Luke (KTB) & Callum (Octogon) vs Andrew & Alex (MTI).
The fight was off to an action packed start, with the lads going toe to toe and tagging in and out.
Unfortunately near the end of the first, Callum was sent to the canvas and ref decided that was enough to stop him.
That left Luke to take on two opponents. A hard ask, but he battled on into the end of the second, and after two knockdowns, we chucked in the towel.
Congratulations to Alex & Andrew for taking the win 🙏
And well done to Luke & Callum for putting on a commendable performance.
Respect 🙏
