Well thats it, our last KTB class was on Wednesday.
Thanks everyone who came along for a last biff at the shed.
It was great to see some old faces, and also having some other gyms coming along too, as well as others joining us at the pub.
A highlight was Jeff Sutherland coming along, as he was one of Barry’s first students who switched from Kempo to Muay Thai back in ‘89.
Also a huge surprise was seeing Ray Perry over from Oz, as he too was an early student of Barry’s, and has continued his position as an integral cog in the TBA machine for many, many years.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my senior students for taking up the slack with classes throughout the last 6 months, most especially Luke Dixon & Jayde Sutherland. Without their help we would’ve shut the doors much earlier.
Also a special mention to Damon Smith 🙏
The past 26 years of my involvement in Muay Thai in NZ has been quite a ride.
From fighting to officiating, coaching(volunteering), counselling and everything in between, it’s been hugely rewarding, and at times bloody scary.
I’ve met some amazing people, and have made lifelong friends.
And the one who started it for me, of course, is Barry Page.
From ‘82 when I joined Kempo, to ‘99 joining KTB, Mr Page has been a mentor, a father figure, and a friend.
Barry would regularly bring Ajarn Chai to NZ for seminars, which upskilled coaches & students around the country, selflessly promoting Muay Thai.
Behind every good man is a great woman. For Barry, this is Marcia. Thank you Marcia, for everything that you have done for the sport, and for me.
And lastly, to Kim, without whom I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. We’ve been through good times and bad with this sport, and you’ve stuck by me no matter what.
Thank you my love.
Enough of this now, times up…
🙏
