How to control pre-stage nerves...
* Control Your Breathing and Physical Tension
Breathe deep: Try deep belly breathing before stepping out inhale deeply, hold for a few seconds, then exhale slowly. This slows down your heart rate and stops shallow breathing.
* Shake it out: Release physical stiffness before you line up by gently shaking your arms and legs to expel adrenaline.
* Stand tall: Good posture and confident body language trick your brain into feeling more secure.
* Shift Your Mindset
Reframe the feeling: Instead of interpreting the physical feelings of nervousness as signs of anxiety, view them as signs of excitement. Both emotions create a fast heart rate, but calling it excitement helps performance.
* Trust your prep: Remind yourself that the hardest part—the diet, training, and conditioning—is already done.
* Rely on Routines and Posing Cues
* Practice posing under fatigue: Practice your mandatory poses when you are tired so muscle memory takes over when adrenaline spikes.
* Fix your focus: Pick a spot on the back wall or look past the judges rather than staring directly into the crowd if the audience makes you freeze.
* Smile through the shakes: If you feel shaky it's SO normal, smile and take a controlled breath before hitting your next pose.
You've got this!
