Identity is something we talk about a lot with young athletes.

This moment from Kane Evans was a powerful reminder that behind every athlete is a person first.

A person with a story.
A person with challenges.
A person trying to understand who they are and where they fit in the world.

Regardless of our different beliefs, cultures, backgrounds, or life experiences — everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and respected.

Because when people feel they have to hide parts of themselves, carry challenges alone, or become someone they think the world expects them to be, it impacts so much more than performance.

That’s why we believe developing athletes starts with developing people.

Helping young people understand:
• Who they are beyond their sport
• What they stand for
• The values that guide them
• The person they want to become
• The purpose that gives their life direction

Because confidence doesn’t just come from what you achieve.

It comes from knowing who you are.

Before better athletes, better humans. 🧠

FROM ROTORUA TO DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL 🇳🇿➡️🇺🇸

Big dreams require big decisions.

At just 17 years old, Colin Doreen backed himself, left home in January, and moved to the United States to pursue a dream.

A few months later… an offer from the University of California Berkeley to play Division 1 College Football for the Cal Bears.

Proud to have played a small part in Colin’s journey — helping develop his speed, agility, explosive power, movement awareness, and Olympic weightlifting foundations before he headed overseas.

Yes, he’s 6’8 and over 130kg — but what makes Colin special goes far beyond his physical attributes.

It’s his mindset.
His humility.
His willingness to learn.
His drive to get better.

A great reminder for young athletes from Aotearoa — your environment doesn’t define your ceiling.

Dream big. Do the mahi. Back yourself.

This is only the beginning 🐻

Mindset is more than motivation. It’s the foundation behind how you show up every day.

Over the last 6 months we’ve worked with athletes, coaches, parents, and communities exploring what it really means to build your mindset.

It starts with understanding who you are, what you value, where you’re going, and why it matters.

Your identity, values, goals, and purpose shape your habits, routines, behaviours, and the standards you live by.

Starting Monday 8 June we’re launching our FREE 4 Week Mindset Challenge — The Art of Locking In.

For athletes, parents, coaches, mentors, and anyone wanting to grow.

🎙️ BUILT DIFFERENT PODCAST | HAZE DUNSTER

Behind every athlete’s journey are people who help them see something in themselves before they can see it.

Haze shares the impact of having the right people around him during his NRL journey — from coaches like Ryan Carr who gave him confidence, to senior players like Brad Takairangi and Blake Ferguson who challenged him to raise his standards.

Talent matters, but the people around you help shape your mindset, habits, and resilience.

A powerful reminder for young athletes:

Surround yourself with people who push you.
Listen to those who have walked the path before you.
Build the mental side of your game as much as the physical.

Because success isn’t built alone.

“Culture isn’t an add-on… it’s an operational system.” — Dr Luke Rowe

A powerful reminder from our recent conversation with Luke around what truly separates elite sporting environments.

Culture isn’t just words on a wall, a team meeting, or something we talk about at the start of a season.

It’s the foundation.

It’s the standards we create.
The behaviours we reinforce.
The relationships we build.
The environment people experience every single day.

If we want to develop better athletes, stronger leaders, and more connected teams — we have to be intentional about the systems we create around them.

At Performnz IQ, this is what we believe sport has the power to do — develop the person, not just the performer.

Because culture comes first.

🎙️ EXPERT INSIGHTS: Sports Psychologist — Dr Luke Rowe

“Accountability without mana creates fear. Mana without accountability creates softness.”

One of the most powerful parts of our kōrero with Dr Luke Rowe was around leadership, culture, and what great coaching really looks like.

The best environments don’t just demand high standards — they build trust, respect, and connection at the same time. Holding people accountable while protecting their mana is what creates buy-in, growth, and long-term performance.

This clip is a must-watch for coaches, leaders, parents, and anyone working with young people through sport. 💯

Week 2 of our 6-week Speed & Agility Programme with Te Puke Intermediate and this crew is going good guns! 🔥

We also kicked the day off with a mindset workshop and the level these kids are operating at is seriously next level. The energy, effort and willingness to learn has been unreal. Big future ahead for this group 💪
