St George's Masters joined Rotorua Rowing Club for a stand-out weekend of adventure rowing during Matariki. Huge thanks to Rowing NZ for approving our hire of their coastal boats, which were perfect for facing unknown weather and exposed lake conditions.
Day 1 involved rowing 5.8km across Lake Rotoiti to the Manupirua Hot Pools on the shores of the lake for a fantastic hot soak (brave souls followed this with a plunge in the lake!) then return row to the trailer.
Day 2 was an early start involving a multi-club circumnavigation of Lake Rotorua, with 4 stops allowing crew and cox changeovers, snacks and a hot drink.
Massive thanks to the amazing team at Rotorua Rowing Club for safety boat support, saying yes to everything, problem solving a broken skeg, finding us crew members at short notice and generally following in the footsteps of the greatly-missed James Boyce who always said "yes" if it allowed people to enjoy rowing.
Shout out to the wranglers who offered support to rowers and to the other clubs (RRC, WRC, Bay Coast, Whakatane and ARC) Masters' members who joined in and helped each other with hearty enthusiasm.
