Positive self-talk is more important than you realise. Human nature is to validate our thoughts and beliefs… that’s why misery loves company. You find things around you to validate or justify how you’re feeling. Start today by believing something good about yourself instead and then see if you can find something to validate it. I bet if you smiled all day, someone would smile back or comment about how happy you are 😁
Believe it until you achieve it!

Sarcopenia - a word we all need to know so that we don’t suffer from it.

It’s the word used to describe age related muscle wasting, something I predict will be one of the biggest causes of morbidity and poor quality of life in the next few decades.

We have a growing population… (more people)
We have medicine advancing… (living to an older age)
Technology is making us less active… (less active = greater muscle loss)

All of the above will lead to a loss of independence, stripping the quality out of the longer life that you or your parents will live.

Become a hero to the younger generation and get yourself or your parents moving. Even a little bit of exercise will make a big difference over time.

Boxing can be good or boxing can be bad…

Bad boxing is when others try to put you in a box so that you stay “true to yourself” or at least their version of who you are. You might even be putting yourself in the box because you think “this is who I am”. People are afraid of change because it exposes them to risk and by nature we tend to avoid anything that might make us feel exposed. We don’t try in case we fail. Others might not want you to try because it will mean that they might need to try as well (and they don’t want to fail). I’ve never known an athlete who got stronger or fitter by staying in their comfort zone… you have to fail repeatedly in order to change, but change is possible!

The good boxing is when you are prepared to fight through the barriers to change. There are always barriers:
1. Yourself:
- your lack of self belief (“nothing works for me”)
- negative self talk (“I hate running”)
- fear of judgment (“I’m going to look dumb doing that”)
2. Other people:
- resistance to change (“you’re perfect just the way you are“)
- their definition of you (“you’re a foodie”)
- them validating their current position so that they don’t have to risk having to change and possibly failing (“you’re crazy… I couldn’t think of anything worse… I’ll stick to my cheesecake and wine thanks”)

The truth is that change is possible but it only happens on the outside of the box. You have to punch through those barriers and keep on swinging until you reach the outcome you want. Nothing changes unless YOU change… it’s possible though… so if you want it, go and get it!

Close but no cigar… this year the Ashhurst Pohangina Stags made it to the finals but lost by 4 points to Feilding Thunder 😕

However, the beauty of it is that we were considered under dogs by most people… not only in the final but throughout the season! The importance of this is that we as a team didn’t think of ourselves as under dogs. We had the self belief that we could win… and we almost did! When you believe in yourself, what other people think is actually irrelevant.

Never let other people’s limiting beliefs stifle your potential! Believe in yourself and you’ll go much further than anyone thinks you can. 💪🏼

Well done to Feilding, but you better believe we’re coming back next year hungrier than ever!

Nothing will change unless YOU change.

I heard a great quote the other day that pain doesn’t go away until you learn the lesson it’s trying to teach you.

If you find that you’re not where you want to be, wishing that things will change is only going to keep you there longer. Instead think about how YOU can change then leave the comfort zone in search of the lessons you need to learn… even if it involves going through fear, pain, anxiety etc because change is on the other side.

Physical (and mental) fitness is not something that happens accidentally. You have to be intentional about what you want...

Physical (and mental) fitness is not something that happens accidentally. You have to be intentional about what you want to achieve and then make it happen.
There are times in life where you may go off track and lose your way, but as soon as you realise that you’ve dug yourself into a hole… stop digging and start climbing out!

Here’s how:
1. Figure out what you want (goal)
2. Understand why you want it (motivation)
3. Get a BASIC plan of how to achieve it (direction)
4. Start swinging! Seriously… just go for it.

Your goals are worth fighting for, so start moving and don’t stop until you get what you want.
