Friday 9 February – Rotorua Golf Club
NZ Women's Senior Champs
Match Play - Gole Two-Peat!
Disappointment for the left hander from Manawatu, when Lisa Herbert lost to the defending champion, Nadene Gole (Australia). In one of those epic matches – the opening holes belonged to Herbert who was 4 up through 8 holes after birdies on the 3rd, 6th, 7th, and an opening par on the 1st when Gole bogeyed. In came the birdie run from Gole; the 8th, 10th, 11th, 13th to come back square. All square to the 16th when sadly for Herbert a solid drive got one of ‘those bounces’ and into the Arikikapakapa Lake. The match was won on the 18th by Gole who will now lead Australia into next weeks Trans-Tasman Cup.

NZ Senior Men's Tournament

A few members travelled to Hawkes Bay last week to play in the NZ Seniors (over 50s) at Hastings (Bridge Pa) and Hawkes Bay Golf Clubs. With several days in the 29-32°C range, this event was a good test of your golf game. A record field of 240 senior golfers representing 75 golf clubs and seven countries teed it up in the 54-hole championship. While the results weren’t great, a good time was definitely had by the MGC members.

Some more good performances by our members at the Jo Kells event at Palmerston North on Saturday. The 36 hole event was reduced to just one disjointed round due the heavy rain on Saturday. Shane Walker played the conditions well to win the nett competition with 66 (81).
In the Women's "PN Classic" Manawatu Golf Club golf club members took the first 5 places, 1st Juhui Kim (70), 2nd Seunghui Ha (75), 3rd equal Lisa Herbert (77) and Casey Chettleburgh (77) and 5th Hyunmi Kwak (80). Rebecca Hopper came 3rd on Net with 72 (87).

An interesting start to the day locating our 13th Tee Sign, which went missing a week ago. It turned up last night, on the Ashhurst turn off, and the vandals even took the time to dig holes in the ground to relocate it. I can confirm there is no item on the AGM agenda tonight seeking permission to expand the Manawatu Golf Course to include a 13th hole in Ashhurst.
The sign is now back with the Greenkeepers who I am sure will have it back in the ground, it its rightful place, asap.
Course CCTV has been passed on to the Police and this gives good leads as to who the vandals and thieves are.
If you have further information please contact the GM.
Thanks to all those in our community who helped locate the sign, we are very appreciative to have it back.

Horowhenua Open/Masters Results 2024
A number of Manawatu GC members were peppered through the final leaderboards for the Horowhenua Open and Masters held on Sunday at Levin. A number of our visitors from Korea did very well in the Open event. While the greens at Levin were mint, afternoon rain tested everybody in the second round.
In the Men’s Open event Junhwan In (Manawatu) came first (69, 69), five shots ahead of Anthony Iilton-Maher from Foxton (72, 71). Fourth equal was Sangwon Lee (Manawatu) (73, 74) followed by Manawatu A-pennant team members Brett Edmonds (74, 74) and Regan McConaghty (73, 75) tied in 6th place.
In the Women’s Open competition, the Manawatu-Korean members did well with Seunghui Ha first (71, 74), Juhui Kim (75, 71) second and local Casey Chettleburgh (72, 77) third.
In the Masters event Jono Cane from Manor Park came first (68, 73), Ewan Westergaard came 9th (73, 80). Richard Shaw was tied in first place on net.
In the Women’s Masters Lisa Herbert came first in gross (77, 78) and first on Net.
