🐣 🐇 Easter Sunday has come around and gone, and with that is the Annual Rose Gardens Croquet club Handicap Doubles Tournament 🐇 Played for the Oliver Cup Sponsored by past life member Rex and Veronica Oliver.

Played in the `old style of Handicap Play this Tournament is split into Two Divisions, Mainly because of the overwhelming support players show. We welcomed players from all over the Lower North Island clubs including Park Croquet Club Hawera, Heretanga Croquet Club (Hawkes Bay), Marsterton Croquet Club, Kelburn Croquet Club(Wellington),as well as Levin Croquet Club,Feilding Croquet Club, Wanganui Croquet Club of course a great number of Rose Gardens Members .

Division One was split into two sections of Six to play a round robin :) .

Division One section one had a four horse race with four teams on three wins each Park Croquet Club Mother/Daughter Pairing of Lelia & Kali Martin Had the better net hoops over the Rose Gardens pairings of Alistair Culley and John Poole and Neil Stantiall and Lorraine Pickett.

Section Two saw a much clearer equation with Rose Gardens Granddaughter/Grandfather pairing of Katie Zentveld and Gordon Tester clear winners of section Two with 4 wins from the Husband/ Wife Pairing of John and Shelley Brown from Levin Croquet Club in Runners Up.

The Final was therefore contested between Section One winners Lelia and Kali Martin and Section Two winners Katie Zentveld and Gordon Tester. With the Final being played to a great standard it was too be the Rose Gardens Pairing of Katie and Gordon who would use their Extra Turns extremely well and would end up the Overall winners 7-3 against Lelia and Kali . Congratulations to Katie and Gordon :)

Division Two saw again players decided into Two sections with Three Games in Morning and then Three Games in the Afternoon in post Section with two winners and Runners Up from each section Making the New Section in the Afternoon

Section One was won by Rose Gardens Pairing of Margaret Snelling and David Everett with all Three Wins Runners Up were Levin's Pairing of Maria Andre and Mary Kilsby on Two Wins.
Section Two was won by Levin Croquet Clubs Ann Davies and Lyn Lyndoe on three wins, with Runners Up being Richard and Ingrid Brooks From Masterton Croquet Club.

The Event final block again saw some hotly contested games. With Two teams having two wins each but it was the pairing of Margaret Smelling and David Everett proving to have the goods throughout the day and pipping Richard and Ingrid Brooks by Three hoops .

Bay of Plenty Croquet Association Annual Golf Croquet Tournament has come to an end for our traveling players. Some fantastic games had by all, some tough results to swallow but that's Croquet. In the battle of Rose Gardens it was Andre coming out on top (this time )

Congratulations to Helen Reeves for winning the Open Singles. With Andre Murray in second and Josh coming in 5th.

Lelia Kissock had a good tournament bagging a couple hard fought wins and learning a bunch along the way

This weekend we have some travelling members. Starting today in the Bay of Plenty Croquet Association Annual Golf Croquet tournament (21st).

The Open Doubles had Josh Smith pairing up with Helen Reeves from (Heretanga Croquet Club) this pairing proving a very successful team with Josh and Helen winning all 7 of their games. Congratulations Team.

Tomorrow starts the Open Singles with another member Andre Murray joining Josh in the Singles for the two days. Then on Sunday Lelia Kissock competes in the 8 Plus Event of the Singles . Good luck to you three bring home the success.

That's a Wrap for the Croquet New Zealand 2nd AC Invitation Event Held at Rose Gardens Croquet club over the last Five days. The weather played its part very well, Very unusual for A Manawatu held tournament. Some amazing Croquet was played over the five days.

Levi Franks from (Canterbury) was the clear winner after beating Reece (Canterbury) in the last round to become the Edwina Thompson Tray holder for this season.
The battle proved to be for Third place with three players ending on 7 wins Andre Murray from Rose Gardens, Callum McKinnon from Kelburn and Luke Rive from Auckland. However for Andre his points difference was superior to the other Two players so therefore Andre was declared Third with Callum Finishing in Fourth and Luke rounding out the Battle in Fifth place.

Congratulations to all on a fantastic event we look forward to seeing you all at our Lawns again soon.

We have our first winners. The Croquet New Zealand Third Invitational Event concluded after three days of hard fought games in testing heat of Palmerston North, Both Graeme Fisher(Wellington) and Peter Filbee (Taranaki) Finished off with 7 wins each, how ever for Graeme he had scored 6 more hoops than Peter on his Games overall. So Peter had to settle for Runner-Up this Time. Congratulations to all the Players for a great tournament.

Rose Gardens Croquet club with support from Central Districts Croquet are proud to host the Croquet New Zealand Second and Third Invitational Events with players from Auckland, Taranaki, South Canterbury, Nelson,Wellington and Central Districts will be competing over Four days to earn the right to be crowned Champions.
Rose Gardens Player Andre Murray will be competing hard to win the Second Invitation event.

This weekend The Don Reyland Memorial Stars- National Handicap tournament is also taking place with players from all around New Zealand competing to be the very best. ..

Rose Gardens Croquet Club is once again hoping its member can be standing on top of the mountain at the end of three days of play in the Auckland Sun. This year's hopes rest on Luke Francis who is looking to keep that Don Reyland Trophy within Rose Gardens after last year's winner Katie Zentveld took it home..

The 2026 Annual Bupa Riverstone retirement Village tournament is about to kick off this weekend.

Starting on Saturday with the Advantage Doubles, with 18 pairs over three divisions, with players from Barry CC (Gisborne), Waipu, Petone, Kelburn, Marewa(Napier), Marsterton, Wanganui, Levin, and of course Rose Gardens. Saturday is in for some good games.

Sunday is eyeing up for an exciting day with the Open Singles exploding with 16 players fighting it out to be the open winner. We have the Best of Rose Gardens Players ( Andre Murray , Josh Smith, Nicholas Flood and the up and coming champion Katie Zentveld ) all looking to keep the trophy here at home. A Rose Gardens Tournament wouldn't be complete without Nathan Bullen and Jessica Bullen who are looking to spoil the Rose Gardens players day.

On Sunday we also have the Advantage Singles being played. There will be some tightly contested games being played in that with players from Barry CC (Gisborne), Waikanae,Kelburn, Petone, Wanaganui, Levin and Rose Gardens.
The Rose Gardens Players won't let that trophy slip through their fingers this year with RGCC Golf Croquet Captain Alistair Culley, Susan Zentveld and promising player Lelia Kissock looking to stop the outside invasion of players at this event.
