Final Sunday session for the off season.
The last two weeks have been "top ups" and based around quality over quantity.

Nothing like a bit of laughs while trying to catch him 🀣

Below is today's session:

Speed + Conditioning Session πŸ‰πŸ’¨

This session targets acceleration, max speed, and conditioning while reinforcing quality sprint mechanics under fatigue.

1️⃣ Bronco Conditioning
1 Bronco every 2 minutes Γ— 8 rounds (1.92km)
Total block: 16 minutes

Rest 5min

2️⃣ Acceleration Contrast (4 Rounds)

A) Broad Jump – 2 reps
Max effort for distance

Rest 20 sec

B) Heavy Sled Drag – 12 m
(Upper body attachment)

Rest 45 sec

C) Sprint – 15 m (Fast!!!)
Explode out and accelerate

Rest 2 min between rounds

One athlete works while one rests.

3️⃣ Acceleration β†’ Speed (3 Rounds)

A) Med Ball Scoop Throw – 2 reps
Max effort for distance

Rest 20 sec

B) Sled Sprint – 25 m
Hip attachment
No weight on sled – focus on speed

Rest 2 min between rounds

One works, one rests.

4️⃣ Pure Speed (4 Rounds)

40 m Sprint
Recovery: Walk back to start

Quality intent on every rep.

Two key learnings from this conversation

β€œDiscipline is doing what you hate to do β€” but doing it like you love it.”

Tyler isn’t someone who enjoy running.

This off season he committed to completing a 4.3km block run each week.
No shortcuts. No excuses. Just consistency.

Over time, that disciplined approach compounded. The hard work started to show in the data (as seen in the graph).
Fitness improved. Capacity increased.

And when rugby season arrives, that base of work will pay off.

Progress isn’t linear.
- The red line represents what people expect progress to look like.

- The blue line represents reality β€” fluctuations, plateaus, small dips, then breakthroughs.
Real progress requires patience and perspective.

You ride the wave 🌊 β€” understanding that temporary dips don’t erase long-term gains.
Stay consistent. Stay disciplined. Trust the process.

Your old personal best becomes your warm up or working set (cardio or weights)

So keep challenging yourself, it won't be easy but it will be worth it in the end πŸ‘Š

We have been through a lot (pandemic, injuries, getting old πŸ˜‚), but through the highs and lows we somehow keep trucking along.

I did have a long winded message I was going to write but I think the below sums it up perfectly on their certificate.

Big fulla is on the move.
We’re still hitting one rugby-specific session each week alongside one aerobic session.

This year we’ve put extra emphasis on his aerobic base so he can come into the rugby session with solid cardiovascular fitness and get more quality work done.

This was a BIG session!!! Can't blame anyone except myself πŸ˜‚

Awesome to have his little brother Hayden join in as well πŸ’ͺπŸƒ

A great few weeks getting outside in the sun, training with a client, and doing something a little different in my training.

Sessions were built around off-season rugby preparation, with each session structured to include.

β€’ Acceleration work (short, sharp efforts up to 20m)

β€’ Velocity training (max-speed straight-line sprints)

β€’ Change-of-direction conditioning

β€’ A simple conditioning block to accumulate additional running metres

Every block was attacked with intent, focusing on ex*****on and intensity.
The emphasis throughout was on quality over quantity, ensuring each rep had a clear purpose.
