Paihia, Bay of Islands 🇳🇿 This is not something we do, this is who we are, we are explorers, and adventurers, a little family sharing their genuine love and passion to help you get into the ocean, safely, comfortably and enjoyably. Our owner operator has been a diving professional for over 20 years, she was raised in this world, and became a commercial diver at 18 years old, specialising in construction. This took her around the world working for aid situations remotely, supporting the UN., building wharfs, servicing slip ways and mooring systems in doc islands etc but wanting to share this other world she became a Scuba instructor to help show others under the water, to share what she gets to see. She has kept training, building on her experience, and now has 3 mermaids of her own in the mix. you can be assured you are in the best hands, so you can get out there to Breathe, Learn and Explore. PADI Basic Freediver
Is a great first step for developing solid freediving skills. You learn basic freediving principles and focus on practicing breath hold techniques in a pool or confined water site. Available to all from 12 years and up. You will earn an internationally recognised certification in which you can progress upon as you grow your freediving skills. PADI Freediver

Learning to progressively go deeper and stay longer, We will cover yoga for freediving, inward power, discipline and control. EXPLORE -
Snorkelling experience's - A great way for anyone from the first timer who would like to give it go or for the whole family wanting to do something together. Go for a float down one of our pristine estuaries, or through our rock gardens around the shore line, full of a diverse array of sea life and eco systems. We would like to extend a welcome to all likeminded people to connect, meet and find more opportunities to get into our big blue.

This week we co label with Native Sports Performance
to welcome a group of young wāhine from te hiku for their basic freedive course — led by our own Myra Connell

They learned the skills: breath, technique, safety, buddy work. But what stayed with us was everything underneath the skills.

Self-talk. Power and strength. The realisation that the mind leads and the body follows — and that you get to choose what your mind says.

Freediving has a way of surfacing these lessons faster than almost anything else. One breath, and you meet yourself.

This is just the beginning of our relationship with Native Sports Performance, and we couldn’t be prouder of these wāhine toa — or of our instructor Myra Connell, who whakapapa to these lands and waters and holds this space like no one else.

I spent years guiding dives and international expeditions on superyachts — 45 countries, the world’s best water, planning perfect ocean days for people who could go anywhere. 🌏
Here’s what I learned: the ones who can go anywhere never remember the polish. They remember the whale that rose out of the blue to look at them. The meal shared salt-crusted after a big day. The sunset nobody photographed.
So I brought all of it home — and now I offer it to the intrepid. 🐋

A full week of complete immersion: whale swims and freediving in 80m+ visibility, sea tracks and coastal walks, breathwork and yoga on the lawn each morning, divine food and whole belly laughs around the table each night. Want your formal SSI Freediving certification?

If you've been thinking about getting your Level 1 (or picking up wherever you're at), this is your chance. SSI certification is internationally recognised and the first step on the instructor pathway.

Your cost: just $85 — this covers your online learning and certification, valued at $350.

Freedive Aotearoa is sponsoring the remaining $285 per person because we want to see more of Te Hiku in the water, safely and confidently.
