Autism Awareness Month 💛

To celebrate this month, we’d love to hear from you…

What’s a moment you’ve experienced that made your whānau feel truly accepted and included?

Big or small — those moments matter, and they help build a more understanding, supportive community for all our tamariki ✨

If you’re looking for quality, personalised first & then board to add to a lanyard

I reached out for a more durable version of my daughter’s “first & then” board (something stronger than our usual laminated ones), and she was more than happy to give it a go — and absolutely nailed it! It’s sturdy, practical, and perfect for everyday use.

My whanau was also lucky enough to get our hands on some awesome sensory dinosaurs that all my kids have been loving, I thought they were so great I even added one to the sensory kit gifted to Tamara at the Takiwatagna Wananga Xabilities event last Sunday

thank you again Victoria! 🙌

April is Autism Awareness Month 💙

But for many of us, autism isn’t just something we “become aware” of for one month — it’s our everyday reality. It’s in the small wins that feel huge, the moments that require extra patience, and the strength our tamariki show in a world that isn’t always built for them.

Autism is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It’s not just what you can see on the surface. It’s sensory overload, it’s communication differences, it’s big emotions in little bodies — and it’s also joy, unique perspectives, deep passions, and incredible resilience.

This month, let’s move beyond awareness and into understanding, acceptance, and inclusion.

✨ Listen without judgment
✨ Support without expectation
✨ Include without conditions

To the parents, caregivers, teachers, and support people — you are doing an amazing job, even on the hard days.

And to our autistic children — you are not too much, you are not “wrong,” you are exactly who you are meant to be.

Let’s keep creating spaces where every child feels safe, supported, and valued — not just this month, but always 💙

✨ Last session of Term One — done & dusted! ✨

What an awesome way to wrap up the term 🙌

We had:
💥 A mix of balancing beams (lots of movement + big smiles!)
🎨 Playdough sensory fun — squish, roll, create!
🚲 Balance bikes — a total hit with the kids
💃 And a BIG thank you to the amazing Zumba ladies for joining us and giving our tamariki a go — safe to say the parents loved it too! 😄

It’s been such a fun term watching the kids explore, build confidence, and just enjoy being themselves 💛

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who came along and supported — we love our little community!

✨ Sharing some beautiful moments from tonight’s special event ✨

What a special evening it was — seeing connections grow, confidence build, and knowledge shared in such a safe and uplifting space 💛

We feel so grateful to have had you with us, Tamara. We can’t wait to see what you get up to on your journey around Aotearoa, continuing to share your knowledge and lived experience with autism. You are truly an inspiration 🌿

To see more of what Tamara gets up to, check out her page Xabilities ✨
She also has some upcoming events in Shannon and Foxton — so if you missed tonight, make sure to check those out!

A huge thank you to Trisha and the team at Tararua Community Services here in Pahiatua for helping facilitate this event — it truly wouldn’t have happened without Tamara and your support 🤍

✨ He mihi nui ✨

E te rangatira, Tamara,

He mihi nui ki a koe mō tō wā, tō mātauranga, me tō aroha i tukuna mai ki tō mātou hapori i Pahiatua 💛

What a special event to be part of. It was truly heartwarming to see the connections being formed and the confidence growing in everyone as knowledge was shared and embraced 🌿

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and walking alongside our community as we deepen our understanding of takiwātanga — recognising that each child has their own time, their own rhythm, and their own way of being in the world.

Nāu mātou i ārahi kia kite, kia rongo, kia whakamana i ā tātou tamariki — not for who the world expects them to be, but for who they truly are. Your kōrero created a space of safety, learning, and connection that will continue to ripple through our community.

Be sure to check out her page, Marama with Tamara — her daily mahi is truly inspiring, and she is a passionate advocate for takiwātanga ✨
