Truth is hard to hear, will be uncomfortable as you adjust your mind set and behaviors.
To the woman in my classes this message is for you too. Martial Arts is a masculine activity, available to everyone to learn and acquire the skill sets to master life.
Males and females have both Masculine and feminine attributes just in different quantities. How you express this is your choice, your way to live your life in the Human experience.
Ladies when you need to physically defend yourself or last long enough until help arrives. You need to know how to bring your masculine 'A' game. This is called 'Consistent Periodic Practice & Training'
Why?
Ultimately, success at physical self defense comes down to one of both of two things; Pain & Toughness.
You get pain and toughness from Training, Practice and Battle testing.
"Self-defense is a negotiation; where pain and toughness is the currency" Mr.Paul A Hicks 2010, GMA Senior Training Manual.
Either your tough enough to take a beating for longer than they have the patience for, or you can serve up more pain than they can handle or both.
Every assailant wants something, how much, how badly do they want it. Can you hike up the cost to them so much, they no longer want to buy.
Remember, if you find yourself in a physical conflict; your other self-defense preparations have failed.
- Environment assessment (Is this place & people safe, can I manage the risks)
- Escape & Evade
- Verbal de-escalation
No fear, be true to yourself, always kick straight and true, train every day and never ever give up.
