When you're not towing a horsefloat, what's the next best thing you can do with a big 4WD? Off-roading towing cross country jumps of course! Thanks to the Asset Committee of the Southern Region PC, we've got 12 more cross country jumps in the training area at GEC! Huge thanks to Sharn Roskam for organising and Sharn, Electra Roskam, Penny Frew and Kerry Jordan for towing, pe***ng and tagging the jumps so they are ready for all you lucky riders. When you've had a go, do let us know how much you are enjoying the new jumps!

New seasons keys will be available soon, with a changeover date of 1 Sept, but if you're not a current keyholder, day hire is available from Otatara 4 Square at $10 (plus $6 for any additional riders outside of the hirer's immediate family)

super setup and cleanup day!

What a fabulous result from our gear setup session! We have two dressage arenas (one long, one short) and two jumping areas ready for use! Not only that, but we've ticked off a number of jobs on the maintenance list - the rabbit warren area in the cross country has been filled and levelled, and we've cleared a number of the rotten logs that were too dangerous to jump. Next step will be a darn good mowing! Hero of the day was Dave Latham and his mighty red tractor, thank you Dave! Huge appreciation also to the wonderful setup team of Julia Latham, Julie Walker, Sharon Walter, Paul Watts, Jasmine Mcdonald, Sandra Cleaver and Brendon Cleaver - without them, you wouldn't have all this gear available for your riding.

Setup session - the GEC jumps and arenas need put out again, so please if you can, come to the Equestrian Center from 10am Sat 1st August, and we'll get all the equipment set up again, ready for riding! Plan is for 1x short dressage arena, 1x long dressage arena, 1 SJ course, and a smaller grid/training jump area. Bring your horse and have a lovely ride after!

Sunday 19th July - Winter Woollies Show
For those looking to ride at the GEC this weekend, please be aware that the entire north paddock (between the Admin building and Dunns Road) will be unavailable to casual users as it will be dedicated space for the show on Sunday the 19th. Setup will also be happening before the show, so please know that the jumps and arena may not be available for use from now on and do not change or shift any equipment in the front paddock from now until after the show has completed on Sunday.

All other areas of the GEC are however still available for keyholder members on the Sunday (although the cross country area is probably the only non-show area dry enough to ride). The float parking paddock will be busy, and keyholders are asked to ensure they don't disrupt any show activity, or ride through show areas. Let's hope for good weekend weather and get out there and enjoy!

Reminder: Sunday 12th July - Southland Working Equitation Group have booked to use the GEC front (Dunns Road side) paddock with arena and show jumps. This area is dedicated for SWEG use on the day and thus will be unavailable for general users until late in the day on the 12th. However all other areas are open for general use, please do avail yourselves of the other spaces and equipment while the SWEG event is happening in the front paddock.

Hi everyone, Griffin Equestrian Centre AGM is to be held at the Ascot Hotel Tuesday the 28th July 2026 starting 7pm followed by a general meeting. Apologies and Agenda items can be sent to Nicola Bulling. Agendas will be posted closer to the meeting date. Meals will be available to be purchased from Emberz Restaurant
