Big weekend! Congratulations to the C and C+ certificate riders, who all passed their exams on Sunday, and a HUGE thank you to Becci Lampard, Poppy Balneaves, Donna Hunter, Dave and Julia Latham, Julie Walker, Sharon Walter and Penny Stratford who turned out on Saturday afternoon to continue the work around the Centre and have everything looking super tidy for the Certificate exams.
While it was disappointing that we didn't have more helping hands (where are you all at members? We need your help!) this small team did a massive amount in just two hours. They cleared all the cuttings from the first working bee, lots of scrub was cut from the cross country, gateways, and along the main area fence lines (we found the fences again!) the lawns and arena were mown, and we have a garden back again around the admin building!
And there's someone who also deserves a shout-out, for quietly ensuring we have a tidy environment - Rachel Burns, you're a superstar for consistently popping in and clearing the rubbish bins and keeping the toilets tidy and clean!

GEC Working Bee #@! 2pm, Saturday 25th of April
Break out your brushcutters, show us your saws, tote out your trailers, and lend us your labour!
We are in need of people to come and help load scrub on to trailers and clear the cross country - we need willing hands most of all, but if you can bring a trailer, saw, or w**d eater, all the better!
Yes, it's on Anzac Day - what a perfect day to give back to your (equestrian) community. See you at GEC at 2pm on Saturday!

Notice! We have a booking on Sunday April 26th for Pony Club Certificate exams. The Centre is still absolutely available to keyholders and casual riders on this day, but please be aware that the dressage arena, show jumps, and cross country area will be used for these exams, and these riders have priority use of this gear on that day. Please be considerate of the riders taking exams - it's a stressful day for them, so wish them well and keep clear of areas they are using. Check in with organisers on the day as to when equipment is required and work in with sharing the gear to make sure the certificate exam riders aren't held up. If using equipment, please also ensure immediately after use that it is reset back to what they have been set for exam use!

This Saturday (28th March) will be the ***SOUTHLAND WELSH PONY & COB CLUB*** Newcomers Show held at GEC. Fabulous show, always a great time and a big, busy day! Anyone else wanting to use the grounds, please be aware that the front paddock is for the show only, and the parking paddock will be super busy! But casual users and key holders can still ride in the back jumping paddock or the cross country area or general parking if you are going to the beach.

GEC is OPEN! But.... until the hay bales are removed, please park only in the small area between main gate and admin building on the northern fence line, away from the hay bales, and riding only in the front road paddock. Please be aware that the mowing contractors will be coming to load bales at some stage, they will need priority access to areas. Please stay out of their way, and no horses are to be in any area where machinery is working. Once the bales are gone, the centre is considered fully open, so have at it!
Please also be aware of traffic this weekend - the Burt Munro beach races are on Friday, the rodeo is Saturday - it's busy out there!

GROUNDS CLOSED FOR BALING! Hi everyone, apologies for the extremely short notice but we have just been advised that mowing is about to start at the Equestrian Centre (as of 5pm Tuesday 3rd). Please avoid the equestrian centre until further notice, we will advise when the grounds are open again, hopefully the weather holds and it's only a couple of days until we have lovely clear paddocks again!

Third time lucky? We have a third contractor booked to try and get the grass cut and baled and taken off the GEC grounds. At this stage, the contractor has said it will happen in the week of 2-6 Feb. We will try and get them to let us know the actual day, and post immediately to advise, as obviously there will be a period the grounds will be closed while this baling is happening. Please check this page for info before you travel to the grounds in the first week of Feb. We are very sorry for how long this situation has gone on for, and the inconvenience to our riders.
