A huge thank you to the incredible Race Management Team behind the 2026 Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge!

This dedicated group of volunteers worked tirelessly for many months to plan, organise, and deliver an event that not only challenged some of the world's most determined solo sailors but also showcased the spirit, capability, and hospitality of the Opua community.

Race Management Team
Julie Kidman – Race Director
Celia Carson – Race Officer
David McIntyre – Protest Chair
Ian Templeman – Safety Officer
Malcolm Dickson – General Committee
Bill Kidman – General Committee
Lesley Lucas – General Committee
Sally Tait – General Committee
John Ross – General Committee
Terry Dunn - General Committee and OCC Commodore
Nigel Richards – Yachting New Zealand Representative
Dr Jen & Dr Dave – Race Doctors

A special mention to Terry Dunn, whose commitment to the event went far beyond his committee role. As Commodore of Opua Cruising Club, Terry jumped in boots and all to support the success of the Challenge, contributing wherever needed and even entering the race himself to help ensure a viable fleet and make the event possible.

From the first planning meetings through to the final prizegiving, this team invested countless hours to create a safe, professional, and memorable event. Their efforts helped put Opua Cruising Club on the international sailing map, brought our community together, and enabled competitors to write their own remarkable stories of courage, resilience, and adventure across the Tasman Sea.

To each and every one of you—thank you. The success of this event is a testament to your commitment, passion, and hard work.

The 2026 Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge Prizegiving will be held tomorrow, Sunday at 1.00pm NZST at the Southport Yacht Club. This will be a chance for us to celebrate all the fabulous sailors and the people behind the event. We're expecting plenty of stories, well-earned trophies, and more than a few laughs as we look back on an unforgettable race.

We'll be live-streaming parts of the celebrations, and a full list of results will be published on our website and page following the prizegiving.

Thank you to Kirsten from Boating New Zealand for this fantastic photograph, of sailors and committee taken at the briefing before the start—a moment filled with anticipation, excitement, and perhaps just a few nerves before the fleet set off across the Tasman.

Congratulations to every competitor who took on this remarkable challenge. We look forward to celebrating with you all tomorrow!
