Yesterday we lost Rémi Bourdelle. One of our best and brightest, one of the most experienced and skilled pilots in the world, the fittest athlete, one of those humans so kind and humble, it was impossible not to like him, even if annoyingly he was better than you at everything.
The news hit me like a hammer. It doesn't matter how good you are. One wrong decision, one moment of distraction, one push too far during a hike & fly race... and you're gone.
The community will remember Mont Blanc Air Tour, the big flights from Chamonix, the ski & fly combos, the PWC tasks, the RBXA performance. I'll remember the flying, the racing, the partying. But my favorite memory is from Hike & Fly Cappadocia. He flew so well and pushed so hard, and came first, but for organizational reasons didn't take the win. I was more upset about it than he was. Meanwhile there he was, learning belly dancing moves in front of a packed hall, trying something new, laughing, dancing like no one was watching. Always chasing the light, living his best, fullest life, on the ground and in the air.
See you up there, Rémi.
