Okato Squash Club

Some incredibly sad news for our wider squash community.

Although Duane wasn't an Okato member, he was certainly no stranger to our club. He joined us at many events over the years - always happy to fill in when he could, support a team, or simply come along and support the squash.

Duane was quite simply one of the good ones - a genuinely good bloke, with plenty of quick wit and banter, who always had time for people.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Sarah, their three children, and all of Duane's family and friends. ❤️

Rest easy, Duane. You'll be greatly missed

We are devastated to share the passing of Duane Cameron. Known for his banter on and off the court, “show pony” style of squash, Duane was an absolute character and asset to the squash club and many other local clubs. Our thoughts go out to his wife Sarah and their three kids.

All of us in the squash and wider community will miss you mate, fly high 🕊️

Duane’s funeral will be next Friday, details to come.

Our Womens E team, going in as Bottom seed and a few new players to the superchamps experience. Currently under way in this morning's round, battling it out against Hawera!

Our E grade Women and Men are Down in Hawera this weekend for Central SuperChamps.
The Women have had a big start already with 3 rounds already done and dusted. Unfortunately no wins yet, but Tomorrow's another day.
The mens team seeded 6th had a win 4/1 against Hawera this morning and are 2 all with Ohakune at the moment with Josh on now.

Some huge matches tonight along with the lunges to match!

Last weekend was our turn to host the Junior Prince!

Great turn out, some tight games and awesome squash played on the day!

A big thank you as always to our Junior Convenor Karen for doing the draws and acting as TC, as well as our committee members who supported as per. Also, a huge thanks to all the kids who played - its great to see the sport being enjoyed by the next gen. A big shout out to the parents/caregivers who make that possible by giving up their lazy Sundays!
