Big congratulations to Jeremiah Shields on his selection for the Cook Islands Cricket team set to compete in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Japan this May 🇨🇰🏏

Over the past two months we have been working together with a strong focus on aerobic and anaerobic conditioning — building the engine needed to perform, recover, and repeat high-level efforts required in T20 cricket.

Proud of the work that’s gone in so far — now it’s time to take it into competition, good luck mate!

Great to be working with another motivated athlete putting in the work behind the scenes.

Sophie represents Canterbury Under 17 and 19 age group cricket teams, and is chasing her goal of selection for the NZ U19 Women’s Cricket World Cup squad, set to compete in Bangladesh and Nepal in January next year.

Our focus has been on building the physical foundations that will give Sophie the best chance to perform at the next level — with targeted programming around speed development and overall strength. These are key qualities for modern cricket, and Sophie has attacked every session with intent.

A big commitment as well — Sophie has been travelling down from Pleasant Point to get her initial work in, and is now continuing her programme remotely. That consistency and willingness to go the extra mile will set her up for a big summer next year.

Excited to keep supporting Sophie on her journey and watch her progress over the coming months.

Great opportunity for learning and connection today 👊

We jumped on a Zoom call with multisport and adventure legend Dougal Allan alongside Academy athlete Henry Ward.

Dougal shared some gold around periodisation and peaking for events, managing load, and time your performance to hit your best when it matters most. For young athletes, understanding when to push and when to recover is just as important as the work itself.

Massive thanks to Dougal for giving up his time and passing on knowledge from years at the top of the game. Experiences like this are invaluable for athletes wanting to maximise their potential.

Strength training for youth athletes is often misunderstood.

A lot of people see it as “extra load” — something that adds more fatigue to an already busy training week. But in reality, it’s one of the most important investments you can make in a young athlete’s long-term development.

Done properly, strength training doesn’t just build muscle — it builds resilience. It helps improve movement quality, coordination, and body control, all of which translate directly to better performance on the field or court.

More importantly, it plays a huge role in injury prevention. Stronger muscles, tendons, and joints are better equipped to handle the demands of sport, reducing the risk of common overuse and impact injuries.

It’s not about lifting heavy or pushing limits — it’s about building a solid foundation.

Think long-term. Strong athletes stay healthier, perform better, and last longer.

Registrations for our Term 2 Youth Athlete Development Programme are now open!

Our Youth Athlete Development Programme is designed to help young athletes build strong foundations in movement, strength, and performance in a fun, supportive environment.

Whether your child is already involved or looking to get started, we’d love to have them join us.

As we head into the winter sports season, we know schedules start to fill up quickly with trainings and games but this is often when strength and conditioning has the biggest impact. When training loads increase, the body needs more support, not just more practice. Strength training helps athletes stay robust, move well under fatigue, and reduces the risk of both overuse and contact injuries across the season. It supports everything they do in their sport rather than competing with it.

Congratulations to Mark Holthusen on being selected for the NZ Over 65 Hockey Team heading to the World Cup in Breda, Netherlands this August! 🇳🇿🏑

It’s been awesome to be part of Mark’s journey—working together through January and February with a strong focus on building his aerobic and anaerobic endurance to get him primed for Nationals. The work he’s put in behind the scenes has been outstanding, and this selection is a well-earned reward.

Wishing you all the best on the world stage, Mark—go well and do NZ proud!

Great to see Ike making use of the Normatec Compression Boots as part of his prep for Maadi. Good luck to everyone involved!

We’ve added Normatec Compression systems to Athlete Foundry.

So what are they?
Normatec uses dynamic air compression to massage your limbs, helping to flush out waste products, improve circulation, and reduce muscle soreness. Think of it as a high-tech recovery system that works deeper and more effectively than traditional methods.

The benefits 👇
• Faster recovery between sessions
• Reduced muscle tightness and soreness
• Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
• Helps you feel fresher and ready to perform again sooner

Whether you’re training hard, competing, or just looking after your body — recovery matters. And this is one of the best tools to support it.

These are available as part of our recovery services at Athlete Foundry.
