With a different coach each week, this is a great chance to build skills, grow confidence, and keep leveling up your game.

Most Improved: Alice Perry

Alice hadn’t played rugby in over five years, but this season she came back and went from strength to strength. Starting out in the forwards where she had never played before, and then she stepped up to play in the backs, showing incredible versatility and growth. A true example of commitment and improvement.

Back of the Year: Savanna Clark

Savanna played out of her preferred ho**er position, at halfback this season, and what a job she did! Strong defensively, robust and dynamic on attack, she brought energy and skill to every game. A standout in the backline.

Forward of the Year: Maddy Rawson

Maddy has been a rock in the forwards, excellent defensively and outstanding over the ball. Her work rate and presence at the breakdown have been second to none. A true forward’s forward.

Most Valuable Players: Hannah Bazemore

Hannah has been electric on attack and extremely aggressive on defense. Her ability to change a game with her speed and intensity has made her an invaluable player all season.

New Zealand Rugby is proud to announce the 2026 cohort of the Women in Rugby Governance development programme. This squad of 27 leaders from clubs and unions across the motu bring a wealth of experience serving the game, on and off the field 🖤

Club Statement:

The future is looking bright for Waitaki Wahine Rugby Club! 🌟

As we head into the 2026 season, our focus is on empowering women and girls to play rugby and we’re making it easier than ever to do so.

We’re proud to support our wahine who wish to play in the Otago Rugby Football Union competition, helping remove barriers so they can keep growing in the game they love. Our club will provide:

💰 Financial and travel assistance to make competing in Dunedin/Otago more accessible

🤝 Guidance and connections to help players find the right opportunities

❤️ Ongoing support from their Waitaki community every step of the way

We’re also expanding our reach into the youth space, encouraging young wahine to get involved, stay active, and develop through sport.

And we’re not stopping at rugby, you’ll soon see Waitaki Wahine involved in other sporting spaces, continuing our mission to create more opportunities for women and girls to play, compete, and lead.
