Deken Waves Aloha! BIO - SIMON DEKEN

Simon grew up in Oakura and has been surfing for 30+ years.

Deken Waves is surf coaching for school kid groms through to adults looking to learn the basics, improve fitness and develop further skills to boost the fun levels n the salty stuff. Simon has two Under Sixteen National Titles and won The NZ Under 18's circuit twice. He has also competed in Australia in the Pro Juniors and travelled to international competitions with the NZ team on a number of occasions and is stoked to give back to the community that help build and support his surfing.

Deken Waves is back and keen to get the groms in the water!

We’ve got a couple of afternoon grommy shred squads running these summer holidays in Oakura.

📍 Oakura Beach ( meet by the club )
🗓 Mondays & Wednesdays
🕠 5:30 – 6:30pm

Small squads (4–5 kids max), so hit me up if your grom’s keen.

Ages 6–12 (zone) $35 per session.

If you want to start some surfing action before the holidays, reach out as I may have an opportunity for you.

I’m also lining up Term 1 after-school squads.

Private lessons are available from now onwards too — kids, adults, or groups keen to get amongst it.

🎄XMAS pressy Surf lesson vouchers are also available.

FRIDAY FROTHOUT is ON! 5:30-6:30pm straight off the ~ Boards avail, $15 per grommy & a caregiver required in the water with them. We warm up, run through some surfing basics then hit the water! Epic fun.
Tonight is also OPENING NIGHT (from 5:30) for the club with BBQ & Bar all go afterwards! & A band from around 8:30 if you’re primed up! the club is also celebrating our Kneeboarding world champs so will be some positive energy in the air later! See ya soon..🤙🏼

Friday Froth-out is an awesome way to learn some basics meet new friends & have a blast..( Refreshments & burgers up at the club after are always a hit…) Private / group lessons avail on request…just reach out.

Mega FUN for the holidays!

TUBING TUESDAY ~ HOLIDAY SURF PROGRAM 9am - 1pm.

Running this OCT 4th & TUESDAY OCT 11th

7 -13yrs ~ 9am start at the Oakura Boardriders Club.

Starts with surf clips & a presentation covering basic surfing fundamentals. Then it's Skateboarding! (carvers & SmoothStars ideal) working on speed generation & surfing maneuvers. From there we hit the beach for stretching, rips discussion, pop-ups & safety ques before hitting the waves!

Based on numbers ~ extra surf coaches will be in the water working throughout the group helping groms nab some 10 point rides.
Return to club at 12pm to debrief & make way to Black Sands for lunch!

$120 for the day.
