Moe mai rā, Chris

Awanui Sports Complex would like to acknowledge the passing of a true Awanui man, Chris Radich, who gained his wings earlier this week.

Chris was a man who loved Awanui. He gave his time, his heart and his energy to our community, our Complex and especially our tamariki.

Laid to rest in all his Awanui gears, surrounded by the ones he cared for.

The supporter of the year award your family donated to the club will live on.

You will always be part of Awanui.

22 June 1951 - 24 August 2026

Passed away suddenly but peacefully in his sleep at home.
A much-loved son of Ljubo and Martha. Brother of the late Evar, Mate, Ivan, Dick, George and Danica. A loved uncle and papa to many, and a loved and treasured friend to Ellen and her family.

A service to celebrate Chris’s life will be held at Geards Funerals, Chapel, 13 Pukepoto Road, Kaitaia, on Friday, 28 August 2026 at 11.00am, followed by a private cremation.

Chris will be lying in state at Mate’s home from midday Wednesday, then on Thursday will move to Waimanoni Marae for his final night.

All are welcome to come and pay their respects.

🏆 AWANUI JMB U11s & U13s PRIZEGIVING🏆

Wow what a season it has been! 👌🏽

Tonight we got to celebrate our awesome U11s & U13s that ended up joining with Panguru and became Panganui 🖤🤍

We are so proud of our kids efforts hard work and the dedication they’ve put into this 2026 season!

From trainings to game days, big tackles, lots of tries, abit of grumpiness 🫣, plenty of laughs and most importantly meeting new friends and growing new friendships 🫶🏽

A huge thank you to all our parents for backing your children and supporting them 100% always having our backs with Kai on home games, kohas etc we appreciate you guys so much…our Coaches, managers, whanau & supporters without use we are nothing!!

One last special mention 5 of our Awaz boys in this photo are heading to Queenstown with the Natives next week and we wish them all the best on their travels Dakota, Hunter, Jackson, Aj & Poroa 🏉

Time to give Mr & Mrs Everywhere their flowers. The below is from the Mangonui netball centre and we couldn't agree more. These two are having a huge impact on the growth of our club and we thank them for their efforts this year.

Our Centre simply wouldn't operate without the incredible people who give their time, energy and skills to our clubs, teams and players.
Our Volunteer of the Month recognition is an opportunity to shine a light on some of those people who continually put their hands up, get stuck in and make netball happen.
🌟 JUNE – NAZ & FRANK | AWANUI
A huge congratulations to Naz & Frank from Awanui, our June Volunteers of the Month!
Naz and Frank have played a huge part in revitalising their club, helping to grow Awanui's senior teams and putting in the mahi across both junior and senior netball. AWAZ ARE WE.
Between them, they coach senior and junior teams, support the management of their club, fundraise, help wherever needed and continue to contribute to Awanui outside of the netball space as well.
They are the type of volunteers every club needs – people who don't just talk about what needs to be done; they roll up their sleeves and get it done.
Whether it means coaching, managing, fundraising, learning something new or simply being the people who turn up when help is needed, Naz and Frank show up for their club in every sense.
Their willingness to continually upskill themselves and put their hands up wherever they can has had a real impact on Awanui.
Congratulations Naz & Frank – and thank you for everything you do for your club and our wider netball community!

💥 Awanui vs Te Rarawa 💥

A huge thank you to Te Rarawa for making the trip over and being great opponents yesterday. It was an awesome day of junior rugby, filled with teamwork, and plenty of heart from all our tamariki.

We’re incredibly proud of every player for the effort, sportsmanship, and courage they showed on the field. Every game is a chance to learn, grow, and have fun.

A big thank you to our coaches, managers, referees, volunteers, supporters, and whānau who help make days like these possible. Your encouragement from the sidelines means the world to our young players.

Last night we came together at The Awanui Hotel to celebrate the end of the 2026 Senior Men's rugby season and recognise the hard work and dedication of our players throughout the year.
