Ngunguru Women’s Hillcon Group were away this week taking on Central Brown AFC, and came away with a dominant 7–0 win after a strong team performance from start to finish 🔥

The first goal came in the 17th minute when Bee received the ball in midfield from Ava, dribbled through multiple defenders and calmly slotted it into the bottom left corner.

Anna doubled the lead in the 30th minute after carrying the ball through multiple defenders and into the box, before amusing the crowd with a brilliant left-footed finish. Just six minutes later, Ava was again involved in the build-up, assisting Anna for her second goal of the game.

Jayde added another in the 42nd minute from the left side before continuing her form into the second half, dribbling into the box in the 54th minute and finishing into the right corner. She then completed her hat-trick in the 65th minute from a free kick.

To finish off a great day, our young player Naia scored on debut after a beautifully placed ball from Bee, making it a moment to remember for her first game with us.

The relentless work from our attackers, midfielders, and wingers kept the pressure on all game and gave the supporters an exciting 90 minutes of football. Although the majority of the match was played in Central Brown’s half, our defence still stayed sharp and alert throughout, dealing well with the determined young opposition players whenever called upon.

Player of the Day goes to Ava for her incredible work ethic and all those goal assists — yes, we are keeping count! 👏⚽

Tikipunga FC Hoskin Civil Women (0) 🆚 Ngunguru Football Club Hillcon Group Women (2) ⚽

If I’m honest, the excitement of re living the matches also comes with the yearly headache of writing these match reports again 😂… but we know we have one loyal fan who reads them every week, so this one’s for you Karyn.

Ngunguru Women travelled away for their first game of the season, and the nerves were definitely showing early on. It took us a good 20 minutes to settle into the game, with Tikipunga coming out strong and putting plenty of pressure on our defence. Thankfully, our backline stood tall all day. Leah was solid in goal behind Abbey and Ayla in the centre-back roles, with Tia and Andrea locking things down out wide. Tiki tested us constantly, but that black wall refused to break.

Our wingers worked tirelessly up and down the field and were very happy to see some fresh legs enter the game. Bee up front, Lilly on the wing, and Liv in the backline slotted in seamlessly and lifted the energy just before the halftime whistle.

At halftime, the coaches’ message was simple: communicate clearly and keep the ball at our feet. The team responded exactly how they needed to. Our two young players, Emily and Anna, made a huge impact through the midfield, helping defensively while also driving the majority of our attacking play.

The breakthrough finally came in the 55th minute when Lilly’s relentless pressure on the goalkeeper paid off, forcing the opening goal and giving Ngunguru the lead.

As fatigue started to creep into both sides, Ngunguru adjusted by pulling a midfielder back to sit defensively in front of the backline, helping absorb the pressure while still looking dangerous on the counterattack. Then in the 88th minute came the moment that sealed it. Ava delivered a beautiful ball into Jayde’s feet, and with power and precision Jayde struck it home to make it 2–0 to Ngunguru.

The final minutes were all about composure, holding possession, and keeping the ball trapped in Tikipunga’s half until the final whistle blew.

A huge congratulations to our Players of the Day, Anna and Emily, whose work rates and impact across the park were outstanding. If round one is anything to go by, we have set the stage for a thrilling season ahead.

Lastly, we wanted to remember our four-legged player who was always happiest on the sideline
supporting the girls. We love you, Snapper. 🖤💛

Special thanks for our who came to cheer us on and our incredible sponsors who help make the magic happen!

⚽ Ngunguru Women’s vs Bream Bay – Plate Final, Trigg Stadium ⚽

It was a blazing sunny morning at Trigg Stadium, the kind of day finals are made for. Walking out of the tunnel, it wasn’t just pride that filled the air it was duty. A duty to ourselves, to each other, and to our supporters to bring the Plate home.

Bream Bay had a new face in goal, a keeper we hadn’t come up against before. Unknown territory. From the first whistle, Ngunguru Women came out firing shots whistling over the bar, smashing the post, brushing the side netting. The intent was there. The crowd could feel it. After five minutes, Bream Bay clearly saw the havoc Bee was creating and made an early tactical shift, planting a man-marker on her. That decision left space for our golden boot sniper Abbey, and we knew chances would come.

But the heat and the size of the pitch started to weigh heavy on our legs after just 15 minutes. Bream Bay settled into their rhythm, keeping constant pressure, while we surged forward in bursts. Charlotte, in goal, was immense pulling off save after save to keep us alive.

Then, the breakthrough: a perfectly timed ball from the backline over their defence. Abbey lit up the pitch, outpacing everyone, one-on-one with the keeper. No hesitation. She rifled it top right. 1–0 Ngunguru.

But with halftime looming, a momentary lapse proved costly. Bream Bay’s wingers stretched our backline wide, whipped in a cross, and their striker buried it. 1–1 at the break. Red faces, empty water bottles, cramping legs. Some players muttered, “I don’t know how much longer my legs can last.” Only 45 more minutes to fight.

The second half was a true battle. The referee kept the physicality in check, but Bream Bay’s relentless midfield pressure told. Twenty minutes in, one of their midfielders unleashed a long-range strike. Charlotte leapt but could only tip it as it clipped over her fingers. 2–1 Bream Bay.

We fell quiet. For a moment. But tactical switches from Sandi and Jay and the roar from our supporters reignited the fire. With bodies on the line, every tackle and clearance mattered. Then came the magic. Jayde, outmuscling their winger, charged forward. From an almost impossible angle near the goal line, she curled the ball with audacious precision into the side netting. 85th minute. 2–2. The stadium erupted. The ground shook. We weren’t done.

The plan was clear: drag it to penalties. We switched keepers, held possession, and the final whistle blew. But the real drama was just beginning.

Penalty shootout. Our five lined up with confidence Bee, Jayde, Sophie, Abbey and Ayla

Ngunguru won the toss we would shoot first.

• Bee stepped up. Ten seconds of ice-cold focus. Hammered it left corner. Goal. 1–0.
• Bream Bay’s first taker cracked under pressure. Crossbar. Miss.
• Jayde followed, calm as ever. Side-foot, clean, 2–0.
• Bream Bay struck back, 2–1.
• Sophie walked up with her daughter’s first birthday in mind. She smashed it home. Happy birthday Ocea. 3–1.
• Their shooter responded, Leah’s fingertips brushing it, but it went in. 3–2.
• Abbey was up next. Composed. Clinical. 4–2.

That left it all on Bream Bay’s shoulders. Miss, and we were champions. Their player walked to the spot in slow motion, the weight of her team on her back. She struck and launched it over the bar.

Ngunguru erupted. The bench cleared, the sideline roared, and the pitch became a sea of celebration. 4–2 on penalties. The Plate was ours.

What an end to the season. We stayed focused, we dug deeper than ever, and we delivered. We couldn’t have done it without our coaches, our subs, and our supporters, who carried us every step of the way.

Ngunguru Women weren’t just winners. We were warriors. And we put on a show.

⚽ Ngunguru Women’s Football Report ⚽

First off, apologies for the late post team – we’ve had three games since we last chatted, and it’s been a busy couple of weeks on and off the field! Here’s a recap of the action:

Ngunguru 2 – 0 Bream Bay

Our final home game of the year was always going to be a tough but fair contest against Bream Bay. We prepared well for their strong attacking midfield and speedy wingers, and both our goals came in the first half:
• Sophie opened the scoring with a powerful strike that the keeper fumbled, before following up to make sure it hit the back of the net.
• Abbey doubled the lead from a free kick, striking hard at goal. The keeper couldn’t hold on, and the ball rolled back over the line.

Bream Bay pressed hard with the wind behind them in the second half, but Charlotte in goal and our backline stayed sharp to secure a clean sheet.

Player of the Day: Tia for her tireless defensive work and great runs down the wing.

Ngunguru 9 – 0 FC Whangarei

Under the midweek lights, this match gave us the chance to rotate players and try some in new positions. FC Whangarei have been working hard all year, but with struggles at the bottom of the table, we knew we could open the game up.

Abbey and Bee were outstanding up front:
• Bee whipped in two perfect crosses for Abbey, who finished both calmly.
• Bee then slotted two goals of her own before leaving at halftime for mummy duties.
• In the second half, our defence stayed well-organised, limiting Charlotte’s work in goal.

Our captain Ayla added her name to the scoresheet, and Abbey was on fire, finishing the night with five goals.

A special mention to our coach Sandi, who pulled on the boots to take the field in midfield. She worked tirelessly to control play, showing her class throughout the game. She also stepped up for a penalty, slotting it away cool and calm just like she’s done many times before.

Player of the Day: Abbey – for her clinical finishing and sharp positioning.

Ngunguru 7 – 0 Madhatters

With a big North Island rugby tournament happening on the main field, our game was shifted to the second pitch and the ref Les had his hands full asking rugby players to clear the sidelines! It took us a little while to settle, but once we did, the goals flowed.
• Bee linked up with Abbey yet again, providing another smart cross for Abbey to open the scoring.
• Sophie worked relentlessly down the wing, creating chances and scoring two cracking goals herself.
• Bee’s ball control and energy were magnetic, and she claimed a fine goal of her own.
• Jayde, after being urged to push higher, dominated the midfield and scored a brilliant hat-trick.
• Sophie and Meika both met corners with strong headers, only to be denied by the keeper.

We made sure to rest a few injured players throughout the match with a big game on the horizon the Plate Final against Bream Bay at Trigg Stadium this weekend.

Players of the Day: Bee for her creativity, vision, and goal contribution, and Jessie for her switch of play and amazing attitude.

🟡⚫️ Ngunguru Women vs Madhatters – Plate Semi Final ⚫️🟡

Ngunguru travelled away to Pohe Island to take on Madhatters in the plate semi final, and it was anything but a tropical island experience. The weather was brutal howling horizontal winds and heavy downpours made for a true test of resilience and grit.

We welcomed back Charlotte in goal, who put on an outstanding display with some crucial saves, and our captain Ayla returned after a double injury spell, bringing strength and leadership back into the game.

Coach Sandi shuffled the line-up, putting players in less familiar positions, and the team took time to settle. A young Madhatters winger fired a shot that cruelly deflected off one of our defenders and into the net, giving the home side the early lead. It wasn’t until the 30-minute mark that Ngunguru found rhythm against the weather and in the new positions. Abbey steadied the backline, winning the ball and sending it wide to Leah on the wing, who slid a perfect through ball for Ayla to run onto. With her second touch she struck clean into the far corner, levelling the game 1–1.

The match was well controlled by a young up-and-coming female referee, who earned respect from both teams. Jayde was a constant attacking threat, unleashing several powerful shots on goal, only for the strong winds to carry them over the crossbar. Meika also impressed with her determined runs through the defence, carving out chances and keeping the Madhatters under pressure.
Just before half time, a corner from Abbey found Ayla’s head in the box, but the attempt was deflected wide.

With ring-in subs Ali and Tasarla giving the team fresh legs, Ngunguru regrouped in the second half. Our usual goalkeeper Leah was pushed into an unfamiliar striker role, and she rose to the challenge. She made clever runs through the defence and linked up play well, slipping passes to the wingers and keeping pressure on the Madhatters’ backline.

Defenders Liv and Emily stood tall, reading the game brilliantly and launching attacks from the back. Much of the play was pushed to the left side of the pitch thanks to the strong winds. From there, quick interplay in midfield found Jayde on the wing. She whipped in a cross against the wind that found Ayla free at the top of the 18-yard box. With no hesitation, Ayla smashed the ball into the net, putting Ngunguru 2–1 up.

Despite numerous late chances, the Madhatters keeper and the relentless weather denied further goals. The whistle blew with Ngunguru securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory, booking their spot in the Plate Final (time and date to be confirmed).

Player of the Day: Emily and Liv – for their exceptional defensive work, composure under pressure, and strong support play from the backline.

🟡⚽️Match Report – Ngunguru Women’s vs Tikipunga (Sunday 24/8/2025);

Through injuries, work commitments, and mummy duties, our Ngunguru ladies continue to go above and beyond – showing up for each other and our community, and making us all proud. And once again, their resilience was rewarded with another hard-fought win.

It was an away fixture at Tikipunga, and Coach Sandi Burleigh knew from the outset it was going to be a back-and-forth battle with every player needing to work hard. Right from the whistle the game was fast-paced, with our midfielders Kate Skerten and Jayde never catching a break. Kate held her defensive midfield role superbly, breaking up play and giving Jayde the freedom to push forward. Jayde took full advantage threading passes through to our wingers and strikers, while also hitting some outstanding long-range efforts.

Ngunguru’s first goal came after a slick build-up of passes that found Bee with her great footwork she struck with strength, precision, and confidence to give us the lead. But Tikipunga were quick to respond. A through ball slipped past our defensive line to an attacker who was in an offside position. Play was waved on, leaving Leah Botica one-on-one. She produced a fantastic first save, but as she scrambled for the rebound, the attacker’s quick feet earned Tikipunga a penalty. The penalty kick was put away cleanly to level the score.

Another moment of magic came when Jayde Reynolds and Trudy combined beautifully, ending with Jayde firing home a much-deserved goal to restore parity. Tikipunga then managed to sneak through our defence and a strike just tipped off Leah’s fingers, the ball agonisingly hitting the back of the net for their second goal.

Halftime score: 2–2.

Both teams rotated subs heavily to maintain the pace, but in the second half it was Ngunguru who found more control in the attacking half. Movement into space improved, and possession was kept high up the field. Sophie Roselt-Hemstalk , relentless on the right wing, pushed until she had nothing left in the tank – and when her legs couldn’t run anymore, she unleashed a stunning strike at the near post that slipped past the keeper.

That goal proved to be the difference. With a 3–2 lead, the team dug deep defensively, shutting down Tikipunga’s late push and holding firm until the final whistle.

The bodies are sore today, but the hearts are proud and the team bond has never been stronger. The quality of football has been lifting week by week, and Sunday was another step forward for this team.

Final score: Ngunguru Women’s 3 – 2 Tikipunga

🌟 Players of the Day: Bee Witt and Rylie – both showed up with grit, skill, and fitness that never looked in doubt, setting the tone for the team’s determination and drive.

A huge thank you to our sponsors for their ongoing support and our ! Photos from the match can be found on the Tikipunga Football page.

Ngunguru Women’s Weekend Off… Kind Of

With no game scheduled this weekend, the Ngunguru Women’s team swapped football boots for frisbees, proving that even on a rest weekend, we can’t resist a bit of friendly competition.

Coach Sandi stepped up as our “Frisbee Golf” guru, sharing her top throwing tips — with players quietly muttering under their breath, “Who doesn’t know how to throw a frisbee?” It didn’t take long to work out exactly who didn’t.

The first hole set the tone for the day: Jessie’s opening drive found a tree, while three other players somehow managed to make contact with the parked cars. From there, the team’s trademark encouragement rang out across the course, with rules… let’s just say, occasionally “adapted” to suit the situation.

Trees proved to be formidable opponents, and Sophie made history as the first player to locate (and explore) the water feature. Laughter, questionable technique, and some very creative scoring made for a classic Ngunguru day out.

After much discussion (and a lot of bad throws), it’s safe to say no one will be taking up frisbee golf professionally — training will remain soccer-focused as we prepare to take on Tikipunga, who currently sit above us on the leaderboard.

A huge thank you to all our sponsors for supporting us on and off the field.

🟡⚫️Ngunguru FC Hillcon Group vs Onerahi McKenzie Contracting⚽️

With the last game ending in a loss, Ngunguru came into this one determined for redemption. At home with a full squad of sixteen, we welcomed back Coach Sandi assisting Jay, as well as the return of Rylie and Jayde from their travels. The message from Coach Jay was: go out firing for the first ten minutes, give it your all, see what happens, and stick to the game plan.

Ngunguru have been improving the quality of their football every single week, and it showed right from kick-off. The team maintained strong possession, building confidently from the back with Jayde and Kate controlling the midfield and wingers Trudy and Sophie pushing high to create dangerous attacking opportunities. In the sixth minute, Ngunguru were awarded a direct free kick just outside the eighteen-yard box. Centre back and captain Abbey stepped up and slotted it perfectly into the net for 1–0.

Onerahi responded with some excellent phases of play, putting Ngunguru under pressure at times. However, the backline of Meika, Sidney, Abbey, and Tia linked well to shut down counterattacks. Leah had a quiet first half in goal, with Onerahi’s first real shot not coming until the 20th minute. Moments later, Ngunguru produced another sharp attacking move Jayde playing the ball to Trudy, who fed Sophie for an excellent cross and finish to make it 2–0.

Fresh legs entered the match with Rylie stepping into midfield, Andrea pushing forward, and Liv reinforcing the backline all slotting in seamlessly and boosting momentum. Up top, Morgan and Bee combined well to keep Onerahi scrambling. In the 40th minute, a clever pass from Morgan found Bee, who skilfully beat a defender and the goalkeeper to make it 3–0, sending the sidelines into another roar.

In the second half, Ngunguru welcomed back Tasarla to help in defence, firing balls through to Jesse, who kept Onerahi’s backline busy down the wing. Playing into the wind, Ngunguru faced more pressure as Onerahi pushed for a goal, moving the ball quickly from defence to attack. But Ngunguru’s composure, leadership, and constant communication across the pitch kept the visitors out. The defensive organisation another area that has improved each week with players steeping up after injuries proved crucial in maintaining control.

The match ended in a 3–0 win, earning vital points on a very tight table where only a few points separate the top teams.

Player of the Day: Kate – for tireless work in midfield, chasing down opponents and providing quality passes to the strikers.

A massive thank you to our loyal supporters, DJ Poppa Soul on the tunes, and referee Les.

Thanks also to our sponsors Hilton Group, Schnappa Rock, CoreFitness, Papaka Road, and McCauley Construction.

Hillcon Group Ngunguru Women’s vs Kerikeri – Match Report
Final Score: Ngunguru 3 – Kerikeri 0
Location: Ngunguru Home Ground

Before we even talk tactics and goals, the biggest shout out must go to our incredible supporters. I’ve played women’s football for years, and that sideline on Sunday? Loud, loyal, and unmatched. It’s the best home support I’ve ever seen. Ngunguru spirit was in full force.

Coming into the game, the pressure was on. With one loss and one draw already this season against Kerikeri, we were an anxious but determined bunch. But over the last few weeks, this squad has been improving impressively. The growth has been real and it showed.

Kerikeri came out firing and looked dangerous from the first whistle. But our black wall—the defensive line—was stacked and ready. Sid led from the back with strength and voice, directing winger Tia with clarity and confidence, and the two combined beautifully to shut down the left side. And Leah what more can be said? Her shot-stopping was pure wizardry, lifting the team with every impossible save and keeping the scoreboard clean.

The first breakthrough came when Jessie pounced on a spilled ball from the keeper, attacking it and slotting it home. 1-0. Momentum shifted.

Midfield engines Meika and Kate ran the game with grit and smarts, pressing high, tracking back, and never letting Kerikeri settle. Then came the second: Sophie drew a penalty after being taken out in the box. Morgan stepped up, calm and confident, and sent the keeper the wrong way while finishing straight down the middle—cool as a cucumber. 2-0 at the break.

The halftime message was simple: stay tight, stay switched on, and shut down their midfield early. And we delivered. The second half saw sharp transitions getting the ball quickly out of defence to our attacking feet. Liv worked tirelessly in multiple roles, never putting a foot wrong. And with 25 to go, Bee came on and reminded us all of her class. She weaved through defenders, and when she found herself one-on-one, there was no hesitation low and hard into the left corner. 3-0. A convincing, confident finish.

Even Kerikeri acknowledged it post-match: we were only the second team to score against them this season. The table is now looking interesting with only 2 points separating us third from the top team.

Player of the Day went to Andrea for relentless pressure, clean delivery, and uplifting energy all game long.

We roll forward with confidence now, preparing for another tough challenge at home next week against Onerahi. Kickoff 1pm let’s bring that crowd energy again. Ngunguru’s not done yet.

Special Thanks to our amazing sponsors and !
