On October 10th, we’re welcoming our friend Gonzalo Anatman from Samadhi Instruments to Sanctuary Hill for two beautiful offerings exploring sound and music.

🎶 Native American Flute Workshop | 10am–12pm
A two-hour immersion into the soulful world of the Native American flute.

Whether you’ve never played before or already have experience, Gonzalo will guide you into exploring breath, intuition and spontaneous music, without needing to read sheet music or worrying about getting it “right.”
Bring your own flute if you have one, or simply come along and explore.

🌿 Sound Journey | 6–8pm
In the evening, we’ll shift from making sound to receiving it.
Drawing on more than 20 years in music, alongside his meditation practice and instrument-making, Gonzalo will weave together live traditional instruments, electronic textures and nature recordings to create an immersive soundscape.

You’re welcome to join us for one offering or make a day of it and experience both.
For those travelling to join us, accommodation options are available at Sanctuary Hill, so you can stay immersed in the land and experience without needing to rush away.

TEEN SCHOOL HOLIDAY YOGA 🌿

A little space away from the pace of school, screens, sport and everyday demands.
These school holidays, we’re offering four yoga sessions at Sanctuary Hill created especially for teens, some to share with a parent, and some just for them.

With yoga, mindful movement, breathing and relaxation, teens will explore ways to move safely, work with tightness in the body, support recovery from sport, and find a little more ease in both body and mind.

No yoga experience needed. No need to be flexible. Just come as you are.

4 sessions:
Sept 28 — Mum & Daughter
Sept 30 — Just You: Girls
Oct 5 — Dad & Son
Oct 7 — Just You: Lads

We are very much looking forwards to offering this next School Holidays 4 sessions where we will connect, move and feel good.
Specially for 11 to 15 year olds who are into sports and want to move well.
These sessions are to help you build safe movements out of linear movements typical of sports. Learn how to balance the demand with stretch, recovery and rest.
This will be easy, accessible sessions for you to take home basics of breathing and relaxation. Great for improving rest and focus!

I would highly recommend starting or refreshing with a course where we talk about all the underlying things that very often (if not always) are left unspoken in a class.

With Guest Gong Masters Nalini Natascha Sas

This three-day intensive Gong & Sound training is a deep, experiential immersion into the fundamental principles of sound, vibration, and consciousness.

It is designed both for those who:
✨️ Wish to integrate sound into their professional work (yoga, meditation, therapy, education, bodywork)
✨️ Feel called to deepen their personal relationship with sound as a tool for awareness, intuition, and transformation.

Over three intensive days, participants will explore:
• Fundamental principles of sound, vibration, and resonance
• Practical gong techniques and ways of playing
• Gong meditation, relaxation, and therapeutic applications
• How and when to use sound safely and consciously
• Creating structured sound sessions (individual and group)
• Integrating gong and sound into yoga, meditation, and other existing practices
• Working with intention, grounding, breath, deep listening, and intuitive perception
• Using sound as an oracle and as a tool for inner inquiry
• Introduction to combining gong with voice and Himalayan singing bowls
• Sound in ritual, ceremony, and transformative spaces. Aftercare, integration, and ethical responsibility when working with sound.

No previous experience with the gong is required — curiosity, openness, and commitment to presence are enough.

If you are on our newsletter list, you might have already seen we are opening this program during the school holidays for youth in our community.

I often get invited to teach yoga foundations at high-schools in New Plymouth and very often I hear the conversion that yoga was not what they expected.

Teens have shared they had an idea that yoga was complicated, that you are meant to be flexible to do it.
And the truth is, teens are going through so many changes and are involved in sports with high physical demand. Flexibility is not the prerequisite nor the goal.

I have used yoga to help them understand breathing and relaxation. Yoga can be excellent for their warm up practices and recovery time during sports.

If you are interested to enroll your teen or come along with them, we have 4 sessions available.

Our next Yoga for Beginners Course starts September 10th for 4 weeks every Thursday at 5:30pm.

Each time I teach this course, it feels quite unique to any other group. And i think this is because of the people that are in that group. Each person brings their own intention and wisdom as why they wish to use Yoga as a way of wellbeing.
Most common things I hear are:
I want to feel good in my body as I grow older.
I wish to sleep better.
I have a sore back.
I can't run anymore, so this is an alternative exercise option.
My mental health needs this.
My wife recommended it.

So yeah, all these bring a flavour to the sauce and we start unpacking incredible conversions about movement, breath, relaxation, mind-body connection.

If I would chose my favorite thing in teaching Yoga, I would chose Beginner courses. I love these spaces.
