Bowls Taranaki wish to acknowledge the passing of Lepperton and Taranaki bowls stalwart, Ellie Goble. Goble accumulated a highly successful career in bowls, often in tandem with other household names from Lepperton like Margaret Cole, June Ward, Mary Maxwell, Elaine Miller and others. She did it in her own quiet, determined and triumphant way, which netted two New Zealand titles and 17 Taranaki titles, along with many other distinctions, including the Tauranga Open, in a glittering period. In addition, Ellie served as the Taranaki women's representative selector/manager from 2008-2012, giving back to a team which she had contributed so significantly to as a player. Appropriately, she was named as Taranaki coach of the year in 2011. To Howard and the family, we offer our condolences but also our thanks. Ellie is most certainly one of the giants in the history of Taranaki women's bowls.
