As basketball continues to grow across the region, the Hub will provide more opportunities for players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and whānau to get involved and enjoy the game in a world-class community facility.

Basketball New Zealand have released three new coach learning modules as part of their new BBNZ Coaching Framework. These short modules (15-20 minutes each) are designed to support coaches as a continuous learner and help create positive, participant-centred experiences for your players.

Available modules:

🏀Beyond the Sidelines (Good Sports & Safeguarding) – creating safe and positive environments

🏀Open Court: Coaching Basketball for All – coaching inclusively across diverse participants

🏀 LANGTON CUP 2026 – LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER 🏆

📍 TSB Stadium, New Plymouth

The Langton Cup is back for 2026. Established by the Langton Family from Ōpunake, this tournament was created to provide young basketball players from across Taranaki with the opportunity to have fun, compete, and enjoy a local tournament experience.

All players, regardless of their association, will register directly with Basketball Taranaki. The player registration fee is $40 per child.

A pretty special few days for Basketball Taranaki, launching hoops at four more schools across the region – that's eight new hoops! 🏀

Through the Chemist Warehouse Hoops in Schools programme, delivered in partnership with We Care Community Trust, four taranaki schools have received brand-new basketball hoops, creating more opportunities for tamariki to get active and enjoy the game.

The celebrations were made even more memorable with Tall Fern Bailey Flavell and members of the Taranaki Airs joining us to help inspire the next generation of basketball players.

Basketball Taranaki 2026 Under 14 Representative Programme

We’re inviting all eligible athletes to attend our three open muster sessions. These sessions are a great opportunity for players to meet our coaching staff, learn the Basketball Taranaki style of play, and become familiar with the language and concepts used throughout the programme.

Cost: $10 total (covers all three muster sessions)

🏀🖤💛 KING'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND TOURNAMENT WRAP-UP 💛🖤🏀

What an incredible weekend for Basketball Taranaki, with our representative teams competing across the country and achieving some outstanding results🔥

🏆 Under 20 Men – Foot Locker U20 Nationals
Our Under 20 Men capped off a fantastic tournament with a 98-84 victory over Harbour to finish an outstanding 7th in New Zealand.

To finish seventh in the country is a tremendous achievement 👏 Well done, boys – Taranaki is proud of you!

🏀 Women's U20 Nationals
Congratulations to Kahsia Bailey-Nowell and Matilda Bublitz, who represented Wellington at the Women's U20 Nationals, helping their team finish in an impressive 5th place.

✅ Defeated Hawke's Bay 113-14
❌ Lost to Basketball Manawatū 86-73

The girls battled hard and successfully secured qualification for the BBNZ Under 16 Nationals later this year. Congratulations team!

✅ Defeated Hawke's Bay 117-63
✅ Defeated Basketball Manawatū 72-61

The boys qualified for Nationals as the Central Zone's top seed, an outstanding achievement and reward for a dominant qualifying campaign.

✅ Defeated Basketball Manawatū U16DV Green 99-87

A perfect 4-from-4 weekend for the Amber boys, showcasing the depth of talent coming through Basketball Taranaki.

🏀 Under 18 Boys
The Under 18 Boys completed an undefeated tournament, culminating in an 88-81 victory over Hawke's Bay in the final to qualify for Nationals as the Central Zone's top seed.

🏀 Under 18 Women
While they did not compete this weekend, our Under 18 Women have already secured qualification and will be heading to Auckland later this year to compete at the BBNZ Under 18 Nationals.

🏀 KING'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS – DAY ONE WRAP 🏀

It was a strong opening day for our Basketball Taranaki representative teams competing in Palmerston North, with plenty of great performances across the board.

🖤 Under 16 Girls
✅ Defeated Hawke's Bay 113–14
❌ Lost to Basketball Manawatū 86–73

Despite the tough result against the hosts, the girls have secured their place at the BBNZ Under 16 Nationals later this year. Congratulations team.

🖤 Under 18 Boys
✅ Defeated Hawke's Bay 93–79
✅ Defeated Basketball Manawatū 104–84

A perfect start for the Under 18 Boys, finishing Day One with two impressive victories and putting themselves in a strong position heading into Day Two.

✅ Defeated Hawke's Bay 100–56

The Amber boys tipped off their campaign late yesterday afternoon and made a statement with a dominant opening win.

🏀 Their qualifying tournament gets underway today with games against Hawke's Bay and Basketball Manawatū as they look to book their spot at Nationals.

🏀 FOOT LOCKER BASKETBALL NEW ZEALAND U20 NATIONALS – DAY TWO WRAP 🏀

What a day for our Basketball Taranaki Under 20 Men, securing their place in the Top 8 at the Foot Locker U20 Nationals 🔥

❌ Narrow loss to Waitakere West 89–86
✅ Defeated Waikato Country 85–84

Two absolute nail-biters that came right down to the wire,

With today's results, our Under 20 Men have officially qualified for the Top 8, putting themselves amongst the best teams in the country.

The hard work continues tomorrow as they look to keep their Nationals campaign rolling.
