OBITUARY: DENNIS WILLS:
Volleyball Taranaki wishes to express its deepest condolences to the extended Wills family on the sad passing of Dennis in New Plymouth on Monday 23rd March.
Dennis taught Physical Education at Hawera High School for many years and coached Basketball and Volleyball teams for the school.
In 2014 Dennis was awarded a Taranaki Secondary Schools (TSSSA) Service Award in acknowledgement of his many years of coaching to secondary school sport in Taranaki.
RIP Dennis.

MPS & CELEBRITIES:
During the opening ceremony at the NZSS Champs in Palmerston North there was a short game between the Politicians and some celebrities.
Included in the politicians team was David McLeod the MP for New Plymouth who was trying to capture his memories of playing Volleyball for Hawera HS in the 1980's. Many thanks David for being part of the occasion.
You may also recognise the tall celebrity who is former World and Olympic Rowing champion Rob Waddell who was involved with the live streaming by Maori television.
A big thank you to Phil Gayton who initiated the idea.

2026 NZSS SENIOR VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS:
A big well done to all teams (players, coaches and managers) who took part at last week's NZSS championships in Palmerston North.
A huge thank you to Maori Television for their live streaming of 18 courts throughout the week. In total there were over 600,000 views of the games making the event the most televised secondary schools sports event ever in NZ.
Well done to both Inglewood HS Boys' and Girls' teams on what was probably their best ever nationals results wise.
Final Taranaki placings were:
Division 1 Boys: Spotswood College 15th
Division 2 Boys: N.P.B.H.S 15th
Division 3 Boys: Te Paepae o Aotea (Hawera) 13th
Division 5 Boys: Inglewood HS 11th
Division 2 Girls: N.P.G.H.S. 15th
Division 5 Girls': Sacred Heart Girls' College 13th
Division 6 Girls': Inglewood HS 11th, Waitara HS 15th=, Spotswood College 17th=.
For the 2027 championships, Taranaki will only have one Top 32 Boys' teams and no Girls' teams.

MALACHY TO PLAY IN THE USA:
Well done to former NPBHS Volleyballer Malachy Herlihy who has joined the roster for the Bryant & Stratton College Mens' Volleyball team for the 2026/2027 season.
Bryant & Stratton College is based in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA and are known as the Bobcats.
They compete in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Region 4 conference.
Good Volleyballing Malachy, enjoy the experience.

VOLLEYBALL TARANAKI SERVICE AWARD- MARION WEBBY:
A big congratulations to Marion Webby (Hawera Volleyball Club) who was awarded a Service Award by Volleyball Taranaki recognising her contribution to the sport of Volleyball in Taranaki for more than 10 years.
Marion has had 3 terms as an administrator on the Hawera Club's committee initially from 1988 for several years, then in 2003 and again since 2020. Marion has also been the Hawera Club's Youth co-ordinator and the competitions co-ordinator. She played in the Club's womens' teams for many years.
Volleyball Taranaki Director Reg Korau recently presented Marion with her Service Award certificate.
A well deserved acknowledgement of your time and efforts Marion.
